Kasey Kahne apologizes for breastfeeding remarks on Twitter
Be careful what you say on Twitter.
NASCAR Driver Kasey Kahne is apologizing today for slamming a breastfeeding mom in a comment he made the other day, plus another tweet where he called someone a b*tch.
Oops.
On Tuesday, Kahne took to Twitter to express his disgust with a mom he saw breasteeding in the supermarket, including tweets that said: “Just walking through supermarket. See a mom breast feeding little kid. Took second look because I was obviously seeing things. I wasn’t!” Continue reading »

Has a rude parenting question ever made you feel like this?
Have you ever been walking around the playground or waiting outside your child’s school when seemingly out of the blue, a parent has asked you a question that was offensive? Maybe you didn’t immediately know how to respond because you were so taken back by their comment. Perhaps you let them have it because it was just that rude.
It might have been about why you are doing or not doing a certain parenting technique with your child or why you are for or against a certain position, movement, or theory. Maybe it got personal.
Rude questions.
There are a lot of them going around these days. While the reasons behind them may change, a rude question generally occurs when someone is stepping out of his or her boundaries and into your business.
Judges have a right to disallow distractions in their courtrooms
A district court judge in Michigan recently told mom Natalie Hegedus that breastfeeding her 5-month-old baby in a courtroom was not appropriate.
It reduced Natalie to tears. Her baby had an ear infection. He was hungry. She was covered up.
But was it appropriate? The judge said no, according to The Huffington Post. And I kind of agree.
Some newborns require breast milk for health reasons. Supplies are running low.
A California breast milk bank is having to cut back on helping babies who need it because supplies are running short, as are other milk banks around the country.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Mothers’ Milk Bank in San Jose is unable to meet the demand for donated breast milk given to babies who need it for medical reasons such as prematurity. They explain, “Babies at high risk often need human milk because they have trouble digesting foreign substances such as formula.”
Many of the few milk banks that exist in the United States already have to stretch their supplies across several states because no such banks exists in those other areas, yet more and more doctors are prescribing breast milk to sick babies. In an interview with the Chronicle, San Jose’s Pauline Sakamoto said, “In the 12 years I’ve been executive director, I’ve never been short. We’ve had to cut back on some of the hospital orders just so we can service more. We had to cut back on some outpatient kids because we didn’t have that supply.”
How You Can Help Babies in Need
According to the AAP, co-sleeping is one of the leading causes of sleep-related deaths in infants
About 2,500 babies die annually from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Now the American Academy of Pediatrics is speaking out with updated information about how sleep-related fatalities can be reduced.
New recommendations state that no bumper pads should ever be used in cribs, not just “puffy” bumpers that were previously frowned upon. The AAP also suggests pacifiers be offered to infants, and women breastfeed their babies, according to the Wall Street Journal.
But what’s bound to spark some debate is the suggestion that while babies should sleep in the same room as parents so they may be monitored closely, they should not sleep in the same bed.

TV twins Tia and Tamera Mowry are probably best known for their childhood sitcom “Sister, Sister”. But they may have a new claim to fame: The first sisterly share of one’s breast milk on television. The milk was Tia’s, pumped into one of those vial-type bottles that will be all-too recognizable to anyone who’s done any time with a Medela. Though Tia had to apply some pressure to her sister to get her to try it (as illustrated at left) Tamera was quick to admit that it actually tasted pretty darn good. Even “amazing”. Reactions on the internets have been mixed. Breastfeeding supporters cheered the vote of confidence. Squeamish people were grossed out. And a couple of pervs lamented that she didn’t “drink it from the tap”.
