Mother’s milk is the ultimate super-food, containing just about everything a baby needs–except Vitamin D. Why? Humans originated along the equator and abundant sunshine originally provided infants with all of the bone-fortifying vitamin they required. Modern-day bambinos, however, could use a little help. According to a Pediatrics study, 5% to 37% of infants require a supplement to meet the American Academy of Pediatrics standard for Vitamin D: 400 international units a day.
The infamous “Headless Body In Topless Bar” headline that ran in the New York Post had always been my favorite news banner…until now. The recent story about a N.Y. chef using his wife’s breast milk to make cheese was a match made in pun heaven, and the press jumped all over it.

Lance Armstrong, seven-time winner of the Tour de France, is probably best credited for the plethora of rubber bracelets that adorn people’s wrists these days in the hope of showing support for or raising awareness of everything from Lance’s own cancer support foundation to Toyota’s hybrid vehicles. Most of the time, the bracelets are innocuous and easily ignored, but at a Silicon Valley middle school, one type is stirring up trouble. It turns out not everyone loves boobies.
Turns out there are many men today who want to breastfeed and are looking to science to make it possible. For instance, Reglan, an acid-reflux medication, could make male lactation a possibility. Is that in the list of side effects? Is that a case of the cure being worse than the disease? “Congrats Doug, your acid reflux is gone but now you have two milk-bearing breasts. Good luck with that.”
Ragnar Bengtsson, 26, busts out a breast pump every three hours, priming is “breasts” in order to one day hopefully lactate for his future offspring.
As a student, Bengtsson’s lactation vigilance often means he’s must whip out the old breast pump in class.
“…it doesn’t really bother me if it makes people uncomfortable,” he said, “If they have issues with it that’s their problem.”
Kids in an Australian high school were all set to watch a breastfeeding demonstration . . . until their teachers pulled the plug. It turns out the kids were supposed to get permission slips to see a woman’s boob.
