I was reading an article in the Huffington Post called 5 Tips To Avoid Flying With Kids. As a mom of two my hackles were raised and I was all set to hate the author, Corinne McDermott. Really? I was thinking. Parents are like lepers now? You’re offering advice to people on how to avoid us?

Sheesh.

So Corinne lists her little tips, the usual stuff: “Avoid family vacation destinations” and “Don’t book the bulkhead” or you’ll get stuck sitting next to some whiner of a kid, that kind of thing.

There I was hating Corinne and everyone who has ever given me The Stink Eye while flying with my kids when I got to the very end of her article. And then I just fell in so much love with Corinne. Here’s the last paragraph of the article: Continue reading »

Recently on a CNN comment board for a story about fragrance-challenged airline passengers, the discussion segued into on-board kiddos.   Should parents be permitted to fly with babies and small children?  Pro or con, there’s little doubt that people are passionate in their feelings on the subject.

If you listen to the parents prepping for a flight with their kids this Christmas, air travel with children is the pits. But the Department of Transportation may have just made one rule that will make things easier on parents.

A flight to Salt Lake City had to be diverted this weekend when a surprise guest appeared on board: a newborn baby.

Due in January, the little boy decided to arrive just outside the Denver International Airport in the galley of a Southwest Airlines plane, with a doctor on his way to a skiing vacation helping Mom with the delivery. Continue reading »

Let me say that I make a conscious effort to eschew violence as much as possible — just as some ex-smokers are almost rabid in their condemnation of smoking, so too am I perhaps overly anti-violence.  That said, I think that, had I been in Nic’s shoes, there would have been blood spilled at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport the other day.  Certainly, the possibly-perverted old man who took her son Jackson away from her and out of her sight to “inspect” him would have been, shall we say, damaged.
