Ellen Responds to ‘One Million Moms’ Hate Campaign (Video)
It looks like the ‘One Million Moms’ hate campaign against Ellen DeGeneres has done nothing but strengthen the partnership between JCPenney and the hilarious spokeswoman. The anti-gay campaign began when a group called OneMillionMoms.com called for JCPenney to fire Ellen as their spokesperson simply because she’s gay.
“Funny that JCPenney thinks hiring an open homosexual spokesperson will help their business when most of its customers are traditional families. DeGeneres is not a true representation of the type of families that shop at their store. The majority of JCPenney shoppers will be offended and choose to no longer shop there.”
Normally I try not to pay attention to my haters, but this time I’d like to talk about it ’cause my haters are motivators.” Addressing the group who said that people will be jumping on the “pro-gay bandwagon,” Ellen said, “Being gay or pro-gay isn’t a bandwagon. You don’t get a free ride anywhere. There’s no music … Occasionally we’ll sing ‘We Are Family,’ but that’s about it.”
She thanked JCPenney for standing up for her and all the viewers who sent messages of support, even very unlikely characters including (believe it or not) Bill O’Reilly. On his show he defended Ellen, calling it a witch hunt and said, “What is the difference between the McCarthy era of the ’50s and the Million Moms saying, ‘Hey, JCPenney and all you other stores, don’t you hire any gay people. Don’t you dare.’ What is the difference?”
Ellen ended her monologue like she always does but prefaced this dance with her stand on family values: “I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people they way you want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values.”
“Oh — also I believe in dance.”

And what gives people the right to “condone” activities of an individual that is not causing any harm to other people. in some minds the gay lifestyle is viewed as immoral and wrong, but how does it affect anyone other than the individual? I would not call myself pro-gay, i have issues with it being that i am christian but i don’t see why people must judge another person. my focus is on myself and doing what is right for me and those around me. JC Penny hiring Ellen as a spokesperson does not hurt me or frankly anyone else so i don’t have a problem with that.

Regardless of why they hold those beliefs (religious reasons, insanity, straight up homophobia) they are still wrong. Wrong.

Condemning someone else’s sexual preference DOES make you hateful, and it’s bizarre to me that you would claim that it doesn’t. If you’re going to be a jerk, just own it – you really don’t make yourself look any better by claiming that your views are anything but bigoted. I mean, really, who do you think you’re fooling?

If you don’t believe that some people/human beings don’t deserve the same rights as others based on their sexuality then that makes you a bigot. It doesn’t matter if you’re a bigot for god or for other equally ridiculous reasons, a bigot you are and that’s what you should be called. If you don’t like being called a bigot because you are a bigot, then don’t be a bigot.
