Google Doodle Celebrates Charles Dickens’ 200th Birthday
He has been called the greatest storyteller that ever lived. Today, Google honors Charles Dickens with his own Google Doodle displaying beloved characters, such as Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim.
Perhaps his most well known novels are many that we’ve read in high school and college, and that our kids are still reading today: Great Expectations, Bleak House, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities, and The Adventures of Oliver Twist. Dickens also wrote short stories, plays and poems, and even dabbled a little in on-fiction.
The Dickens doodle is unique. When you click on the logo, you see a list of Dickens’ Google ebooks, available for free.
Today’s celebration spans well beyond Google Doodle. It has been reported that he Prince of Wales will visit Westminster Abbey to lay a wreath at Poets’ Corner, the site of Dickens burial in 1870. Prince Charles also is expected to visit London’s Dickens Museum today as well.
Check out the doodle below and see if it doesn’t stir up some warm and fuzzy feelings from long ago.
