Punxsutawney Phil Makes His Annual Prediction: Groundhog Day 2012 (Video)
And Punxsutawney Phil says........
Did you hear the news? Of course, today, February 2nd can only mean GROUNDHOG DAY! Well, Ok, it might not be a big deal where you live but for the Punxsy folk in western Pennsylvania, Groundhog Day is their claim to fame, and they sure know how to celebrate this unofficial weather pronouncement by everyone’s favorite groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil.
I mean who wouldn’t be excited to see a groundhog who is over one hundred years old make a weather forecast? (Yes, they claim Phil is the one and only groundhog that has ever made the prediction in the past 126 years.)
You know how it goes, on every February 2, Phil comes out of his burrow right on Gobbler’s Knob in front of thousands of followers from all over the world to predict the weather for the rest of winter. Legend says if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If he does not see his shadow, there will be an early spring.
Today Punxsutawney Phil emerged just minutes ago. He was introduced by the President of Groundhog Club’s Inner Circle who said:
“On Gobbler’s Knob on this beautiful Groundhog Day February 2, 2012, Punxsutawney Phil proclaimed six more weeks of winter!“
So there you have it folks, it’ll be a few more weeks until we can put those winter coast away once and for all.
Now let that poor, old groundhog go back to hibernation until next year.
