Ms. Brown will make her debut during the Super Bowl

Super Bowl commercials are known for a few things: talking frogs hawking beer, talking babies hawking stocks, and hot women hawking, well, does it matter?

This year, M&M is getting in on the game with a Super Bowl spot featuring a luscious lady hawking feminism, according to Jezebel (via The New York Times). The spokeslady is Ms. Brown, and she’ll be speaking out on behalf of the brown lady M&M’s.

She isn’t the first female M&M (of course, if you were keeping track of the gender of the M&M’s, then you already knew that). The green M&M also has lady bits. But Ms. Brown is the first chocolate candy with the hard shell that melts in your mouth, not in your hand to take up the cause for female candy (that is, if female candy can actually be considered a cause).

The New York Times describes Ms. Brown as, “an intelligent woman with a sharp wit who finally decided to reveal herself after working for decades behind the scenes as ‘chief chocolate officer.’”

As Jezebel writes, “Ooh, a career woman. And how fitting since she sounds exactly like the brown M&M — a total workhorse among the M&M’s but never a color anyone notices . . . until now.” Particularly since she wears glasses.

She even has a Twitter account, although with only one Tweet to date: “”Well behaved women seldom make history” -Laurel Thatcher Ulrich “Making history is easy when you’re the original milk chocolate” -Ms. Brown

It remains to be seen if assigning a gender to the brown M&M will make her more palatable? delectable? delicious? powerful? ladylike?

We’ll have to watch her Super Bowl spot on Feb. 5 and see.

Are you thinking the same thing as me? That it’s about time the people at M&M’s took a stance on feminism?

I get the unsettled sinking feeling that Ms. Brown is just going to be the “saint” to Green’s “whore”. I hope not. Red, Yellow, Blue and Orange don’t have any stereotyped personality that I can pin off the top of my head. Maybe Red is supposed to be “cool” and Yellow is “nerdy”. I’m just going to be very disappointed if the girls are just a rehash of the whore/saint female cliche.
