10 Small Stories About Education That Deserve Your Attention
Here’s a decidedly more upbeat follow-up to last week’s post, about the 12 Worst Education Moments in 2011. While it’s important for parents to know about the very small percentage of teachers who have done horrible things, it’s equally important to recognize the teachers who are working hard every. single. day. to educate our children.
Working under increasing pressures of standardized test scores, budget crunches, and larger class sizes, the vast majority of teachers are still bringing miraculous light bulb moments to kids all across the country.
The sad part is, I had to dig pretty hard to find some of these stories. When you Google “teacher” in the news, all you find are the disturbing stories. But, lo and behold, there were some small stories that deserve way more attention. Some of the stories are highlights from 2011, and some are simply from this week.

Oh, and one more thing. A look at recent teacher awesomeness just has to include this video of a group of Korean Kindergartners being taught English by singing the Ramones song, “Judy Is a Punk.”
