It seems like flash mobs are everywhere these days: train stations, college campuses, Target. Of course, they never happen when I’m grocery shopping, but whatever. The most awesome place to find flash mobs these days is in schools, and even elementary schools are in on it. There’s a sudden rash of teacher flash mobs on the internet, and they. are. awesome.

I’ve pulled together ten of my favorite teacher flash mobs, from all across the country. (Plus a shout-out to British Columbia, Canada.) For almost all of them, the students had no idea what was about to happen.

I can’t imagine where these teachers come up with the energy. I’m exhausted after dealing with just my four kids all day!

And you’d think that with the pressures of test scores, pay freezes, and budgets running out, they’d just want to head home at the end of the day, not stay and practice a dance routine. But these teachers did just that — all to motivate their students with a little school morale.

When you look at the comments on the videos on YouTube, students left messages like “that’s why our school dominates” and “I love our school.”  With a study just out about the tremendous impact just one teacher can have on a student, imagine the impact all of these teachers are having on their kids!

Here are the teachers and staff of Rocklin High School in Rocklin, CA, rocking out to Flo Rida’s “Club Can’t Handle Me Now.” The students’ cheers at the end say it all.

After a fire drill, teachers at Lamb Elementary School in Salem, OR teachers surprise students with a flash mob. Best. Fire. Drill. Ever.

This one? Is a mash-up in the key of AWESOME. Here’s the staff of St. Charles North High School, in St. Charles, IL faculty busting a move for their unsuspecting student body! Super props to the teacher who comes in sliding on his knees.

At Portsmouth Middle School in Portsmouth, RI, the half time show at teachers vs. students basketball game was these teachers rocking out.

This high school must have a heck of an A/V club, because the camera work is really nice. Teachers at Barrington High School in Barrington, IL get students in on the act with a call-and-response.

Here’s the staff of North Olmsted High School, in North Olmsted, OH surprising their students at an assembly on the last day before winter break.

This last one is my favorite. First of all, the teacher at the beginning is hilarious. Secondly, I defy you not to tear up when the kids join in. The camera gets a little shaky at the end, probably because the kids are going bananas. Here are the teachers of Ellsworth Elementary School in Naperville, IL, surprising their students with a routine to Katy Perry’s “Firework” at the end of the student talent show.
