Top Baby Names Projected For 2012
A few months ago, I wrote a post about what parents regret the most. Strange as it may sound, it turns out 8% of parents regret their baby’s name.
Some even say they would change it if they could and the number one reason for this is because they chose a name that was obscure at the time but ultimately attained popular status. Now their school-age child is one of what seems like a sea filled with a ton of Isabellas and Aidans.
With that in mind, Pamela Redmond Satran of the popular baby naming website, Nameberry put together a list of the hottest baby names projected for 2012:
Girls
Charlotte
Seraphina
Amelia
Violet
Isla
Imogen
Boys
Asher
Finn
Henry
Milo
Jasper
Atticus

Jen commented on Dec 30 11 at 10:55 amOh poo…I have an almost 4-year-old named Finn. His name was #300 when he was born. As a Jennifer born in the early 1970s, I was trying to avoid giving him an overly popular name. Oh well!
Andrea commented on Dec 30 11 at 3:18 pmActually these are all quite nice. None of them sound like future inmates or McDonald’s workers. And from what I can see, they are all spelled correctly. No doubt some idiots will jump on the Sirrahfeena and Attykus bandwagons. Sigh.
CW commented on Dec 30 11 at 7:24 pmThose names have been popular for a while now with the possible exceptions of Imogen and Atticus.
Taz commented on Dec 30 11 at 9:02 pmi thought charlotte, violet, amelia and isla were all popular already? and all the boy names except atticus. i don’t know why everyone wants their kid to be the only ______ in the world. i would settle for something that’s not top 10. i predict ruby, clementine, arabella penelope and nora/norah will all be really popular. also a resurgence of aimee and susannah.
Darlene L. commented on Dec 31 11 at 11:00 amI have an almost 5 yr old Jasper and have yet to meet another one so I really hope this isn’t accurate!
Erin commented on Dec 31 11 at 11:22 amI had a son in March that I named Henry Atticus. So much for that!
Diana commented on Dec 31 11 at 6:39 pmlol so name your child something obscure to be deemed cool in your own mind to everyone ….sad, how about they chose names like toast or butter or even zygote …never here those words being used as names heck or create one never used like la-a pronounced Ladasha one mom striving to be unique and original came up with forget that most bubble forms for tests and applications don’t allow you to input your name with dashes poor La-a. I chose names both me and hubs liked and agreed on and still don’t regret them. .
Teri commented on Jan 02 12 at 8:34 amMy sons name is Asher, he is 9 years old, I was way ahead of my time :) Of course my oldest is Logan (18) & he was the only Logan I knew til he was 8, & he went to school with a girl named Logan :( My daughter is Marlee, she is 3 :))
Muskrat commented on Jan 02 12 at 8:34 amI’m looking forward to a resurgence from Jesus Christ and Dammit, my brother and I’s labels.
Pam commented on Jan 02 12 at 8:47 amWhen I picked names, none of them where very high on the top 100 list and I believe some of them weren’t on there at all. It’s frustrating to see them becoming popular. Like Penny. I love the name, but I never would have thought it would begin rising in popularity again. However, even if they become #1 names at some point, I don’t think i’ll regret my kid’s name bc we loved those names. The one regret I do have is, although I love my daughter’s name, I wish I had names her after my mom and saved her name for a deci.d daughter bc now I’m all worried I may not have another daughter to name after my mom.
Alisha commented on Jan 02 12 at 9:54 amWith the exception of Charlotte, I hate all of these names. Jasper is just horrible. I don’t known why but Atticus just drives me crazy. Usually I think it’s cool when people name their kid after a favorite character from a book or movie, but I just can’t stand that name.
sarah l commented on Jan 02 12 at 11:23 amI made up my sons name, pretty sure it won’t be getting popular. Especially since you can’t even find it anywhere online :-)
crazy Shilo commented on Jan 02 12 at 12:05 pmwow… I have an 11 month old daughter who’s name I highly doubt will ever become popular. Do I regret naming her the name I gave her? No, not one bit put it this way If your kid don’t like the name you gave them, they’ll be able to change their name legally once they become 18 (the age may vary). I say and think you just should enjoy it since you hate it but they love it because it’s who they are, why would you regret something so meaningful and special to them? O.o *Just Saying*
Robyn Galloway commented on Jan 02 12 at 2:37 pmI love the name Asher, and have never thought of it as a popular name. I am not a fan of trendy names, so Im really hoping this isn’t true!
amanda commented on Jan 02 12 at 2:49 pmmy cousin named her son atticus 2 yrs ago……my 4 month old sons name is jessup ….very few people under the age of 70 have ever heard it before
lauren commented on Jan 03 12 at 4:56 pmi always have to smile when people read a “popular names list” and are shocked when “their” special name is on it. name trends rise and fall in popularity over large populations of people – and the name that sound so “fresh” and “different” to your ears likely sounds fresh and different to many others in your demographic. as the 20- and 30-somethings mostly having kids these days, we’re all sick of the jennifers and laurens from the 80s (i say this as a lauren myself). the vintage-ish names from the earlier part of the last century (like henry, charlotte, etc) are nice and old-fashioned sounding (also super trendy in general are things that are “old-school”) but not so recent that they remind us of our parents (all the debbies and scotts and patricias from the 50s and 60s). also, people who are naming small babies do not always spend a lot of time with the parents of other small babies. if they did, they’d realize just how many beatrices and bastians and liams and sophias are running around the playgrounds. and yes, i know children with ALL the names on the lists above, except for imogen – which i was seriously considering for my own child until we found out he was a boy!
Jen B commented on Jan 04 12 at 4:15 pmMy son is Atticus Henry (3.5) and had his little sister been a boy, she would have been Asher William. Apparently I am on the cutting edge of trends and didn’t even know it!
monica carbajosa commented on Jan 10 12 at 10:46 amNot a fan of any of the names, sorry.
Savannah commented on Feb 17 12 at 8:05 pmWhen my husband and I named our son’s we didn’t even worry about where their names were on the “popular list.” We picked names that had meaning, but weren’t weird. Our 2 year old is Jeremiah James and our 6 month old is Isaiah Levi. Biblical names. I haven’t met very many boys with those names, but even if they get super popular it wont bother me, we chose names we liked and that fit them. I’d rather they be the 20th Jeremiah/Isaiah in their class rather then the only “Audio Science” or “Pilot Inspektor”…(yes those are names.)
