obama holiday picture New Obama Family Portrait Unveiled

President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and their daughters, Malia and Sasha, sit for a family portrait in the Oval Office, Dec. 11, 2011.

With so many families taking family photos around this time, the Obamas are no exception. This official family photo taken by Pete Souza was released today at noon on the White House Flickr account.

The last family photo was taken back in 2009 when the girls were noticeably younger, and as the official announcement states, “the girls have grown up so much since then.”

I gotta admit, I love the photo. What strikes me the most aren’t even their faces, although while we’re on the subject, this family has got to be one of the best looking presidential families of all time. Every single family member is stunning, and their smiles look as genuine as posed photos can get. When I see the president alone, he usually has a charismatic smile, but when with his family, his smile just always seems to widen.

What I love the most is the sight of their hands intertwined. Michelle is holding Malia’s who is also holding onto Dad, while the president grabs the hands of the two youngest ladies in his life. I prefer it to their 2009 family photo, taken by Annie Leibovitz, which is also beautiful, of course, (because let’s face it, the Obamas couldn’t take a bad or awkward family photo even if they tried), but not as connected.

Is it telling how the president is just a mere member of this pic, in the background of his youngest, and not the dominant force? I’d say it probably is, and is representative of the strong and bonded family dynamic … even with a president for a husband and father.

My only criticism….where’s Bo?

What do you think? Do you like the photo? Or did you like the 2009 pic better?

i love it. i also love that there is NOT a dog in the photo, because one of my number one pet peeves is when people send out christmas cards that say, “love, jim, sally, bobby, jane, rex and fido”. no no no. i do not want a card from a dog, thankyouverymuch.

A nice picture but so obviously posed, they pull out the girls like optional jewelry when its to their advantage
