Walt Disney World celebrates 40 years of fireworks this month, and in this video, we get a glimpse at the history of this magical element of Disney.
The first fireworks show at Disney World took place on October 24, 1971 — a celebration called “The Fantasy in the Sky” to mark the dedication of what is now the Polynesian Resort.
We’ve rounded up some of the best Walt Disney World fireworks viewing tips below:
The number one Disney World fireworks tip is to get to your viewing spot early. In some cases, while an hour before the fireworks may seem like overkill, during busier times at the parks, you absolutely want to get there that early.
Be sure to bring snacks and drinks, plus games and other ways to pass the time because it can seem like a long wait.
For a completely different viewing experience, consider dining at one of the restaurants that has a view of the Magic Kingdom Wishes fireworks. Check the fireworks time and try to plan your reservations accordingly at ‘OHana, Narcoossee’s or California Grill.
We dined at ‘Ohana and requested a window table –- and actually got one, though it’s not guaranteed! It was such a great experience because they pipe in the music, so you don’t miss a bit of the magic.
The Polynesian Resort beach is also a great place for viewing Magic Kingdom fireworks.

For Fantasmic’s show at Hollywood Studios, be sure to arrive 30 minutes to an hour ahead of showtime, depending on park crowds.
