Babble Names Top 50 Dad Bloggers
Mommies might hog the parent-blogger spotlight most of the time, but dads are finally getting some recognition for their considerable contributions to the blogging community — Babble has released their first ever list of the Top 50 Dad Blogs of 2011.
Dad bloggers don’t exist in the same volume that mom bloggers do, but what they lack in numbers they make up for in wit, honesty, literary skill, and a parenting perspective that makes their presence a vital part of the parent blogging community.
With the growing amount of men staying home to take care of the kids, watch out for dad bloggers in the news. I have a feeling they will be getting a lot of coverage in 2012.
The list is topped by Mike Adamick’s blog Cry It Out, a beautifully written and, at turns, humorous and heart-breaking account of raising his daughter Emme with San Francisco as a vivid backdrop. One of my favorite memories from three years of BlogHer conferences was seeing Adamick read his post called “Don’t All Kids Play In Vacant Warehouses?” at the 2009 Community Keynote — while crying so hard I had to use a tablecloth to help mop up the mess.
Daddy bloggers of all types are represented, even female dads — Polly Pagenhart of “Lesbian Dad” is ranked second on the list. The categories represented are: Funniest, Best Written, Most Confessional, Most Groundbreaking, Most Useful, and Best Design.
