Amanda Knox Appeal: Murder Conviction Overturned, Amanda to be FREED
After four years of denials by Amanda Knox and her defendants, an Italian jury has reached a decision to partially overturn the convictions of Knox in the murder of her former friend and roommate, British-born Meredith Kercher. Amanda Knox and co-defendant Raffaele Sollecito are to be freed. Amanda has been acquitted of all charges except defamation. She will go back to prison tonight to collect her things, and then be freed. Tears and gasps were heard in the courtroom and boos were shouted from the crowd outside.
Earlier today Kercher’s family spoke out that they wish that the case hadn’t overshadowed their daughter’s life, and they continue to believe Knox is guilty. Amanda’s family, as well as the Kerchers, watched in court while the verdict was read.
Labeled “Foxy Knoxy” by the tabloids, Amanda Knox had planned to spend her junior year of college studying abroad in late 2007. Kercher was sexually assaulted, slashed in the throat, and left for dead in their apartment. After hours of interrogation, Amanda Knox confessed that she was present when Meredith was killed and then later claimed that she was forced into the confession.
