A Colorado farm has recalled cantaloupe sent to 17 states due to possible listeria contamination. Jensen Farms in Holly, Colorado, is voluntarily recalling cantaloupe it shipped to Illinois, Wyoming, Tennessee, Utah, Texas, Colorado, Minnesota, Kansas, New Mexico, North Carolina, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arizona, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania between July 29 and Sept. 10.
More than two dozen cases of the outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes have been reported in Colorado, Indiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Montana and Texas, and four people have died. Most of the infected had consumed whole cantaloupes. The FDA and CDC are investigating and have yet to confirm the exact source of the outbreak.
Listeriosis usually causes fever, muscle aches and gastrointestinal problems, according to the CDC. It can be dangerous in pregnacy and fatal among high-risk groups, such as the elderly and those with compromised immune systems or chronic medical conditions.

Eli Navarro commented on Sep 28 11 at 12:07 pmSince my pregnant daughter consumed cantaloupe most recently, we have to have tests done on her. Who do we go after these unexpected medical expenses?
