Toddlers & Tiaras getting heat for tot dressed as Pretty Woman hooker
The Toddlers & Tiaras Pretty Woman hooker costume episode is drawing plenty of heat – yes, that is a three year old dressed as Julia Roberts’ prostitute character (video below).
Paisley’s mom, Wendy Dickey, doesn’t see anything wrong with the costume. The Parents Television Council (PTC), however, has some serious issues – not only with dressing a child as a prostitute, but with TLC’s decision to air it on Toddlers & Tiaras.
The PTC tells TMZ, “We have a serious problem when The Learning Channel features a toddler, who probably hasn’t even learned to read, dressed as a prostitute showing off her sexy strut. There’s no question, TV executives are complicit in robbing these small kids of their childhood.”
Their spokesperson adds, “For years we’ve seen adult sexuality being inappropriately and aggressively foisted on innocent young children, but children today are being sexualized at younger and younger ages. All available data suggests they will suffer for it later in life.”
The child’s mom tells EW.com, “Well, at this pageant there was an option to do celebrity-wear. And we thought about what we could wear with her being a brunette and Julia Roberts is my favorite actress of all time. I thought it was real cute to do Julia. She’s 3, if she was 10 I never would have considered this. But as young as she is I thought it was very comical.”
Dickey explains to TMZ, “I’m raising my child just as well as any mother does … I take my kid to church every week … at least I’m not forcing them into sports and getting my child injured like some parents.”
I don’t know – let’s weigh dressing your three year old like a whore versus getting her involved in sports. Not much of an argument.
TLC has also come under fire for their “Surprise Homecoming” military reunion show – weigh in on that discussion of military kids on reality TV.
