Busy Parent Briefing: 4 Confirmed Dead At Indiana State Fair After Sugarland Stage Collapse
A stage at the Indy State Fair collapsed on concert attendees during a Sugarland concert late Saturday night.
Just before the popular country duo Sugarland was to take the stage at the Indy State Fair tonight, high winds rolled through causing the stage’s canopy to lift up “like a sail” and crash onto concert attendees below. Four have been confirmed dead with many others injured. Sara Bareilles had just performed on the stage and tweeted after the accident, “I’m speechless and feel so helpless. Please send love and prayers to Indianapolis tonight. My heart aches for the lives lost.”
The official Twitter page of @IndyStateFair was updating on casualties and confirmed four deaths. Indy State Officials are asking concert goers to tweet, update Facebook statuses, or text the words “I’m ok” to keep family and friends informed after the mass chaos of the tragedy tonight.

Freakish winds lifted a stage off the ground and blew it across the road.
How terrible. My heart hurts for all who hurt.
Little Frogs commented on Aug 14 11 at 7:26 amI grew up there and have performed there many kids as a kid. Indiana’s weather can get ugly fast. Much of the state fair had taken shelter in the large buildings. Officials were considering evacuating the crowd at the concert just before this happened and they didn’t. I can’t imagine how awful those officials feel this morning.
Such a tragedy.
