Moms share their darkest secrets in new survey
Do you have a mom secret that you’ve never shared with anyone? The Today show mom blog and Parenting.com conducted a survey to find out what moms are hiding, and, turns out for the most part, they are just exhausted, often overwhelmed, and in need of support.
Sound familiar?
Don’t get me wrong. There are some real doozies of mommy confessions in the mix too, like medicating a kid for an event, plane flight, or just some “peace and quiet on a regular night,” or sending a sick kid to school.
Overall, however, it sounds like moms keep their frustrations under wraps, or else they fear that they’ll be judged for not being able to juggle it all or… gasp!… that they’re not as perfect as they appear on the surface.
Some of the questions seem a bit misleading also, as more women answered that they would rather lose 15 pounds than add 15 points to their child’s IQ. What if you already think your kids are smart? Why not go for the thinner option then?
Ann Curry sat down with the folks that conducted the survey, who shared that women who wanted a time out or support were afraid they’d be perceived as being selfish, with many admitting they don’t even share with their friends how tired they are or that they may need a break.
Seems they have good reason for fearing just that, as 87 percent in the survey said they judge other moms for their parenting practices. The pressure to be perfect is overwhelming!
Interestingly, 23 percent of moms said they would pick a different husband or partner if they had a do-over! That’s not to say they don’t love the one they’re with, but certainly those feeling overwhelmed may have considered the option of having a partner who was a little more helpful.
Those looking for a place to vent sometimes turn to confessional blogs like Truu Mom Confessions, TrueMomConfessions.com and Scary Mommy Confessions to share their anonymous confession without being judged.
