Oslo, Norway: Why Would Terrorists Open Fire on Youth Camp?
Terrorist Attacks in Norway
Oslo is known as a peaceful place. In recent years the Scandinavian country has not been the victim of violent political or terrorist plots…until now.
Earlier today a bomb ripped through a government building where the Prime Minster of Norway’s office is. This attack came as quite a shock, and was followed up by yet another tragic event. On Utoya, an island outside of Oslo, a man dressed up in a police uniform opened fire at a Labor Party youth camp being held there, reportedly shooting several young people.
“There has been an incident where a man dressed in a police uniform started shooting among the youngsters on the island. This created a panic situation where people started to swim from the island” a spokesman said. There are unconfirmed reports that about five people were hit. After the shooting there was added urgency to the chaos since the police were also concerned that there may have been explosives on the island due to the bombing earlier in the day. As of now, it isn’t totally clear if the two attacks were related but most think they are.
The summer camp consisted of mostly teenagers ranging in ages from 14 to 18. There was to be a meeting of the Labour Party (who currently are in power in Norway). But why attack the camp?
Is it believed it is because the Prime Minister of Norway – Jens Stoltenberg – was on schedule to attend the event. One suspect was captured. “The fact they captured him alive is a major breakthrough because they will be able to establish from him if it is an ongoing attack,” a Sky News expert said. The intelligence community has been expecting that a Mumbai-style attack has been imminent since a year ago.” He added, ”The worst-case scenario is not just multiple attacks in one country, but in several countries.”
Let’s hope not.

kikiriki commented on Jul 22 11 at 5:08 pmThis pretty much proves that terrorists don’t have any agenda other than to spread terror. Bombing Oslo is like gunning down Mr. Rogers. This is one of the most peaceful – and peace loving – countries.

NONE of the countries attacked by terrorists were attacked because they ‘deserved it’. These attacks were a result of the twisted religious beliefs of the attackers, the large group of people who provided material support and the larger group of people who share their beliefs.

To thinking people, this was an obvious possibility from the beginning. To reacting and afraid people, terrorism only has one face. Learn from this; think before you make wild assumptions and leaps of logic.

Lisa commented on Jul 24 11 at 1:32 pmI am not a Christian but I could not argue this is a Christian terrorist… yet. You can call him a Christian terrorist when we find a religious leader or group behind him encouraging the death of Norwegians or liberal kids.
