Skinny Women Make Men, Er, Marriages Happier. And Here’s What Makes Women Happier.
A new, four-year study published in the July issue of Social Psychological and Personality Science of 169 newlywed couples asserts that marriages were found to be better when the wives were thinner than their husbands. Husbands were more satisfied initially, while the wives were more satisfied over time by having a lower body mass index than their spouses.
The lead author of the study put a positive spin on the findings, saying “There’s a lot of pressure on women in our society to achieve an often unreachably [sic] small weight. The great take-home message from our study is that women of any size can be happy in their relationships with the right partner. It’s relative weight that matters, not absolute weight. It’s not that they have to be small.”
Oh. OK. It’s good to know that wives don’t have to be small, just smaller than their husbands. No pressure, ladies.
Regardless, even though the studies say thinner women make everyone happier, here are a few things that make women happiest in marriage:

Andrea commented on Jul 20 11 at 5:56 pmI’m definitely in the “liking a man stronger and taller than me” camp. It feels very protective. My husband is 6’2, and I’m 5’6 and I weigh a good sixty pounds less than him. I like that ratio. Works for me.
