This man belongs in the Parenting Hall of Shame

Some are born great. Others achieve greatness. Some have greatness thrust upon them. And some people are so un-great they drop their daughters so they can catch a baseball at a Dodgers game.

The latter made himself known on Saturday during the ninth inning of a game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Florida Marlins. He was holding his little girl until he noticed a foul ball heading his way. He dropped his daughter to try and catch it. To make matters worse? He dropped the ball, too.

Check out of the video of the contender for Worst Dad of the Year (although to be fair, it’s only June):

Meredith: if there’s an award for best opening paragraph of the week, I think you just won it.

Wow, the sad part is you can see her hit her back on the chair, and start to cry. When he finally attends to her, she’s still crying, and she elbows him. Good for her!

Father of the year right there. Could have been worse, but still needless.

To be fair, he did try to set her down. I think that if he had noticed that her feet were on the railing, instead of the ground, he wouldn’t have let go. Hopefully. ;)

@Cristina — He tried to set her down? I must have missed that. Looks to me like it was a clean drop. And by “clean” I mean just plain dropped her.

Oh jeez, really? This is not bad at all. The girl is like 7, not an infant, and it does look like he set her down. It looks like she was leaning back on him after he set her down, but he wasn’t directly behind her and she fell. I don’t even think she was crying–I think that was a look of shock (her face looks pretty tear-free in the later close-up). But he did totally deserve the elbow.

Didn’t bother to watch the video til now…but I’m with Snarky.
“He was holding his little girl until he noticed a foul ball heading his way. He dropped his daughter to try and catch it.” Uhm, he was holding her up so she might catch it, in my view, and yeah, she was a big girl, not a baby or toddler or even preschooler…
