Usually when a politician has his “yeah, I was a bad boy” press conference, his loving yet pissed off wife is seen standing nearby. But when Anthony Weiner was at the podium to address his Twitter scandal this week, he did so by himself.
During his press conference he said that, “I love my wife very much, and we have no intention of splitting up over this.” Many wondered why she wasn’t there by his side but now we know why. His wife Huma Abedin is reportedly pregnant with their first child.
The sight of a pregnant and emotionally wrought woman standing next to her disgraced husband while he addressed his inappropriate actions would have brought the scandal to a whole new salacious level. But she also is working, traveling with her boss Hilary Clinton going to Abu Dhabi and several stops in Africa. So she could have just been out of town, but it’s more likely that they didn’t want the visual image of a pregnant wife by his side.
Seriously, their pregnancy came at pretty much the worst time. But many times, nature just takes its’ course. Neither Anthony Weiner or Huma Abedin could have expected that their personal life and Weiner’s indiscretions would become public news and the hot topic of the day. Just a week ago, they were just a ambitious political couple, now this week they are front page news. Many speak of things that can test a marriage, and this, this is a doozy. And with starting a family – already a stressful undertaking – this really is not convenient by any stretch of the imagination. Hopefully Anthony Weiner will conquer his vices and will be there for his wife and child.
