Baby Factory Busted In Nigeria
It’s unimaginable to consider pregnant teens that are forced to give birth to babies for profit, but that’s just what is happening in Nigeria.
Thirty-two teens were rescued from a “baby factory” by Nigerian police. The babies born to the teens were intended to be used to foster more sex trade and human trafficking markets which are prevalent in the country.
Acting on a tip that an owner was harboring pregnant girls and then selling their babies, police investigated and found the undercover operation.
The NY Daily News reports that the youngest girls were just 15 years-old:
Some of the girls, who were between 15 and 17, told authorities that the clinic’s owner, Dr. Hyacinth Orikara, forced them to sell their babies to him for around $190, depending on the gender, Agence France-Presse reported.
Orikara could face up to 14 years in prison for selling babies.
Even worse, it was believed that many of the babies would be sold to people for rituals. The paper reports that “baby factories” or “baby farms” are common in western Africa and organizations sell newborns to the highest bidder.
