Barry Bonds Hits Grand Slam For Victim’s Kids
Barry Bonds, the disgraced all-time home run king who left baseball under a dark cloud of performing-enhancing drug suspicion, isn’t such a bad guy after all. At least off the field.
San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow, 42, was beaten severely and left in a coma outside of Dodgers Stadium last month. It was just revealed that Bonds has stepped up and made a pledge to Stow’s kids to pay for their college education.
And Bonds isn’t the only major league athlete to step up to the plate on behalf of the Stow family: Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum also donated $25,000 to the Stow family fund.
Stow remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition under heavy sedation to prevent seizures from the traumatic brain injury he sustained in the attack, which occurred March 31st.
Giovanni Ramirez, 31, was arrested over the weekend in connection with the Stow’s beating, but no charges have been filed yet. Police characterize him as the main aggressor; his accomplices have yet to be identified or caught.
Even during the scandal that rocked Bonds career, San Francisco Giants fans continued to stand by his side (for the most part). It’s safe to say he has one more family solidly in his corner.
