Harold Camping

Harold Camping of Family Radio reportedly spent Sunday both “mystified” and “a little bewildered” when his predictions of the apocalypse did not come to fruition on Saturday.  He is – no doubt – pretty bummed that his righteous being and those of his followers weren’t swept up via the Rapture while the rest of us burned in something akin to hell. But he’s not the only one who was “mystified” and “a little bewildered” by the whole thing. Families everywhere scratched their heads, but in a very different way.

Most families probably were astounded that one fanatic could cause not just elicit worldwide interest but such deep passion and commitment from families across the country. Some spent their life savings on billboards to spread the word. Others packed up and left their families to join Camping’s efforts. There are those who not only believed it wholeheartedly but shared this “inevitable fact” with their children. This end of days scenario that is a pretty scary concept.

For the children of believers, they too are probably feeling “mystified” and “a little bewildered.” Their parents, the ones they are supposed to trust above all others, sold them a bill of non-rapturing goods. I’ve noted this before, but it’s concerning that parents could immerse their families in apocalyptic culture. Thinking the world is going to end and that you’re going to heaven is one thing, but when the reality of being mere mortals sinks in, will these children ever trust their parents again? They, and Harold Camping, have a lot of explaining to do.

Camping needs to refund what he deceptively extracted from others. To do otherwise is to reveal his true intentions: a religious ponzie scheme.

It’s a horrible thing that people squandered all of their money on a bogus prediction. However, I don’t feel it’s fair to bring children trusting their parents into the mix.

“will these children ever trust their parents again.”

I mean one could very well say the same thing about Santa couldn’t they?

Flawed commented on May 22 11 at 10:26 pm

Flawed: Well I wouldn’t put parents leading their children to believe the world is going to end to the myth of Santa in the same category. Those are two different extremes. Santa is one thing, but getting ready for the end of times is pretty hardcore.

“”Most families probably were astounded that one fanatic could cause not just elicit worldwide interest but such deep passion and commitment from families across the country. “”

That is also an accurate description for the Christ.

I was at an anime convention this past weekend. A few “The end is nigh” signs (changed to “The end WAS nigh” today), a few people running around screaming “It’s the end!” and people pretending to choke to death simultaneously, but nothing out of the norm. Well, except for the fact that we didn’t get a thunder storm at ALL, stupid weather.com for lying.

It’s clear that no one took this seriously, except for the few strong believers. And the strange thing is, I’m fairly disappointed.

People like Harold Camping is very irresponsible. Before said any kind of information, he had to thing about consecuences.

Harold Camping should be thoroughly ashamed of himself. I hope he takes a serious look at his religious beliefs. Hopefully he will realise before too long that his faith in God and Christ is a load of baloney. You may as well pray to Mickey Mouse, The Easter Bunny and Harry Potter. It’s all tosh. There is no God. This doesn’t mean we don’t have to be good to each other. Treat others as you wish to be treated; live a happy and healthy life; just don’t waste your time putting all your faith in fairytales. Deluded idiot.

Camping made similar predictions in 1974. He was wrong then, too. This is a man who is using a holy scripture as a map of sorts (National Treasure-esque). Those who were swayed by him, in my opinion, are simply that: easily swayed. Yes, I’m sure we all had nagging thoughts in the back of our heads as we laughed and joked about the rapture. But clearly, this man was wrong. The Bible says that not even JESUS knows the day that the rapture would occur. Why would Camping gain precedent over the holiest man to ever walk the earth?

What Camping did is in my opinion a ;ittle coocoo!! People do messed up things all the time. The only difference is that this nut job sparked interest. As far as kids are concerned, yes they will be definetly tainted for a very long time, but then again, these won’t be the first batch of ‘bad parents’ or parents that made wrong choices. I see lots. It’s just ashame that the kids don’t have the choice but to be exposed to this BS.

Americans are stupid. I know. I are one.

where is all the hysteria about the hugest ,richest church in the world, and all the child molestation that was hid for decades ,world wide?!?Harald s mistake was innocent .there is no guile in it .and I will continue to learn and love Haralds teaching.at worst hes guilty of an obsessive compulsive disorder.I do hope he rectifys some of those financial problems and maybe regain some trust back.I love you harald.

Harold is a joke. If the man is going to claim to be a believer it would help if he would believe in the Bible. One day Christ WILL return for His church, but He will come like a theif in the night and we will not know the day or the hour.
I don’t feel sorry for the families that spent their life savings. They can read. They claim to be believers in Christ then believe the Word of God, not Harold. The kids will be confused for a bit, but they will be fine.

It scares me that religion can have so much power over people. I feel that a god who was loving enough to create this life would never end it in such a fearful and devastating way. Nor would they want it’s people to live in suffering or fear that someday soon it would all come to a horrible end. Religion has caused so much pain, death, and senseless suffering. Do you really think that was God’s intent for us? My God is a God of love. I know that when it’s my time to go, it will happen. But until that day I plan to live life without the fear of doom. And to live this beautiful life that God has created. God would never want us to follow fake idols, especially ones that caused us to spend our money, fill our childrens lifes with fear, and have us dedicate our entire life to the end life, when I know God created u’s so that we would live life not waste it.
