Earthquake In New Zealand Hits, Just As Harold Camping Predicted?

kermadec islands new zealand 300x211 Earthquake In New Zealand Hits, Just As Harold Camping Predicted?

New Zealand's Kermadec Islands saw a 6.1 earthquake, but did Harold Camping accurately predict?

While Harold Camping’s proclamation of the rapture coming May 21, 2011, it’s safe to say we have all survived. We did not see Judgement Day and most families today are thankfully still making plans for the school and work week ahead.

Most people jokingly referred to the world ending on Facebook and Twitter but went on with their regular schedules. While some had end of the world parties, while others made end of the world confessions, radio DJs played R.E.M.’s “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It” about a million times.

But still no doomsday.

Yet one of Camping’s prophecies has come true. New Zealand did have an earthquake today according to the United States Geological Service.

USC reports that a 6.1 earthquake occurred on the the islands of Kermadec:

The 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck the uninhabited islands on Sunday at 9 a.m., New Zealand time. The islands are about 500 miles northeast of New Zealand’s North Island.

Since the islands are about 500 miles northeast, the quake clearly did no damage to the North Island.

So while some may think that Camping’s earthquake prediction for New Zealand did kinda come true, there’s two things wrong with it.

First of all, thank goodness no one was hurt and the quake hit an island that was uninhabited. Secondly, while it is May 21 here, the earthquake technically hit May 22 in New Zealand.

Like today’s volcano in Iceland which some speculated might be the start of the rapture, this seems to be another case of pure coincidence. Earthquakes are quite common in New Zealand anyway. My kids have been saying all week how something will happen that will cause people to proclaim that Camping’s predictions were somehow related. Their teachers have been reassuring them all week that they will indeed see them all on Monday.

To the majority of us, today has been an event to snicker about and have fun with. So it looks like tomorrow will be back to business as usual. And luckily, no zombie sightings have been reported anywhere!

Earthquakes happen every 15 minutes around the world people! Stop trying to tie things together that have nothing to do with each other.

Such Harold guy says it going to be a big Earthquake. So a 6.1 it’s NOT a big one

Bruno commented on May 21 11 at 9:38 pm

he predicted that it was an earthquake that was going to make japan’s earthquake look like nothing and that was gonna cause a chain reaction and start hitting everywhere So no, his prediction didn’t come true.

Alex commented on May 21 11 at 9:41 pm

Wow even though the earthquake wasn’t 12.0 point 0 That’s to much a coincidence happening in New Zealand. We should’ve taken heed. Yet we are in deniel. I believe this is the beginning to the end. Before that to the TRUTH will open up quickly about the people around us.

has this guy ever read a bible? if he did he would know that not even jesus knows when judgement day is, only god.

kevin commented on May 21 11 at 10:22 pm

i think the prediction was that there would be an earthquake in new zealand at 6:00 PM EST (USA) on may 21…6.1 is a pretty good sized quake and it occurred close to the time predicted.

Ok, so there is no secret rapture, we knew that. So back to the Great Tribulation that all Christians must go through before Jesus Christ really returns. And there will be nothing secret about it because “every eye shall see!” For those who want to know how to stand firm during the Great Tribulation then find my book, Final Warning, because the hour of His Judgment has come. @ D….Well–there are an average of 13,500 earthquakes each year in NZ …that’s an average of almost 37 per day and more than 1.5 per hour….

Reesy commented on May 21 11 at 11:04 pm

LOL CAN’T BELIVE PEOPLE FAIL FOR THIS KIND OF CRAP
IT WAY PASS 6PM EARTHQUAKE HAPPEN ALL THE TIME AROUND THE WORLD LOL

RAVEN commented on May 21 11 at 11:10 pm

Yep. NZ is I believe one of the most earthquake active places in the world, big stretch saying that there will be an earthquake there on a given day when one happens there every day. There was already another one on the 22nd.

Harold Camping, I despise you, You give a bad name to Christianity. By the word of the bible, only God himself knows when the day of resurrection will be, and that will never change. Manufacturing lies as you do is pathetic and disgusting. The only thing you accomplish is; A.) Making yourself look bad. & B.) Instilling fear into the minds of ignorant people. I write this at 9:34 PM on the 21st of May, 2011. Nothing has happened or changed, which in turn proves that you were wrong. You’re probably experiencing a familiar feeling right about now, maybe one that you felt back in 1994 perhaps? I’m right, you’re wrong… Again.

Brady commented on May 21 11 at 11:33 pm

Everyone keeps saying in way past 6:00pm in their time zone without considering its Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 5:38:44 PM HAST my time.

zedwards commented on May 21 11 at 11:40 pm

im glad that they switched the “judgement day” up to october 21 2011 now. this is all just some vicious circle. christian internet sites who are supposivley serious about this are preaching the word of god while trying to sell their $19.99 books. i almost don’t give a s*** anymore. i live my life right and good. i’m happy and don’t hurt anyone, my soul will be to rest. i don’t need to follow to feel i will be saved when the world blows up. bring it on.

sally commented on May 21 11 at 11:49 pm

he saw at least that an earthquke was coming. he was right about that. he just miscalculated again! no doomsday

One of the best reasons for getting a good education is to prevent manipulators or crazy people from influencing you. Obviously only the uneducated were convinced this goofball was right. Everyone else was laughing about it.

Bluffs commented on May 22 11 at 12:56 am

this is truly pitiful. how long are people going to keep falling for this sort of nonsense?

religion….the anchor on the good ship human advancement.

mike c commented on May 22 11 at 1:02 am

Propaganda people. That’s how religion has stayed alive, by keeping everyone afraid. Pathetic and sad.

TV commented on May 22 11 at 2:11 am

I believe we are close to the end, people need to stop laughing and joking and mocking Harold Camping or any other person that they are mocking and just get into the Word of God Tge Bible and beg God for His Mercy and Salvation through the only Savior– The Lord Jesus Christ. We shouldn’t be taking these precious moments to mock camping or anyone but should take it as a wake up call and seek the Lord. I’m not a bible teacher, I’m just a person who is terrified of the world ending and being left behind in horrible tradgedies for 5 months until we are all dead. I don’t desire the things of God in my heart or desire Christ or anything about the Will of God— which is bad and tells me that my heart us in a very bad place before God and I am not currently saved. I’m praying to God that He would please be merciful to me and my family and friends and bless me with a new heart that is right toward Him… I’m praying that God will give me a sorrow for my sons and give me a hatred for the things of the world because I want the things of the world and that’s bad …. please to any true believer that reads this, please will you pray for me that God will have mercy and save me and my mom and our loved ones and rest of our family ….May God Bless You All ….

the truth is in the bible god says that only he will know the date it will happen not even his right hand man which is Jesus himself will know so if Jesus doesn’t even know then god isn’t going to tell someone else and it also says when he comes to take the ones who go with him we will have trumpets descending from the heavens and i heard nothing and i saw nothing so is the world ending soon well ya of course but how soon don’t know it could be days weeks months or even yrs we will never know were not meant to know even when Jesus returns the world doesn’t end that day it all goes on for longer than that so we should take peace in knowing if we are good people and have been saved and follow the bible then we will be with him not made to suffer so for those of us who are in that group then were ok and don’t need to panic but the ones who are not need to be scared for hell on earth is going to be just that horrible and may god take pitty on your souls

shavon m commented on May 22 11 at 2:24 am

Betcha the New Zealanders were freaking out!

Sue Rosenorn commented on May 22 11 at 4:20 am

According to the Bible, ‘prophets’ whose predictions do not come true are false, or lying prophets. They were directed to be stoned. But Mr Camping will continue to blether on, be assured.

peter ripley commented on May 22 11 at 5:26 am

I will like to congratulate Mr. camping on just one point. Mr Camping raised awareness to worship the God of Heaven who created Man and All things in maybe a few ways. He was able to mobilise people in many countries to read the Bible.
Mr. Camping was wrong in many aspects. I wrote him sometime ago that he was a false prophet. Yes he is a false prophet. He succeeded in this because a large majority of people including his follows do not read the Bible themselves, as such, many are deceived.
The Holy Bible is very clear on these subjects. Jesus Christ warned us in M’t:24:4: And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
The game today is deception. How many will be deceived, 99% will be deceived. Our only guide is the Bible (Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth). To understand the Bible we must read it, that why God provided it.

No True Christian would follow this man. He is an arrogant Old fool who believes his own Bible translations.

His followers are the worst, they trust “HAROLD CAMPING IS THEIR GOD!

Harold Camping is a horrible Bible teacher

SEE HOW HE MADE 38 MILLION IN 1 YEAR!

I’m just amazed that intelligent human beings in the year 2011 still believe any of these ridiculous ancient fairy tales. When is the human race going to grow up? Start thinking critically, people. Stop being such sheep.

C. Andrews commented on May 22 11 at 9:29 am

perhaps we should give god a gps next christmas so he get the right location for the earthquake.

timo commented on May 22 11 at 10:16 am

Jesus did come to His followers, I believe it, it happened at the end of that generation. However that coming is complex and is indeed a historical parable for us today. We must see Jesus through their eyes. Then it was exact, today it is idealistic. See my website for more in you want to at redirectism.com. You can get it on line for free. There is a way to understand the 2nd coming without taking the words of Jesus out of context.

donald perry commented on May 22 11 at 10:58 am

This man is a scam artist. He had this whole thing planned.
Are you aware people have killed themselves over this in different countries?
He should be jailed…if we ever find him.

Diane Richnafsky commented on May 22 11 at 11:15 am

Yeah, well we get so many earthquakes in New Zealand, EVERY day, that I really don’t think this counts! Check out:

We all know that there will be earthquakes. My family lives in Southern California and one thing that I can do for them is to help them prepare as much as possible. One of the first things to purchase is furniture straps. Even without earthquakes, I don’t want a large piece of furniture falling on one of my grandchildren.
