Leaning On My Mommy Friends Keeps Me Sane
One of the things that I thoroughly enjoy about having a career in the parenting world is that I have met countless incredible moms throughout the years. Whether they were my writers, staff, or co-workers, the bond that I have formed with the groups of incredibly smart and savvy modern moms has been nothing short of a blessing to me. Even some of my bosses have been loving mothers who have shared much needed advice about their trials as a young moms and offered bits of wisdom they gained along the way since their kids have grown. My daily social media networks have brought my high school and college friends back into my life and now that so many of us are moms, we have picked up that bond that began so many years ago. At my children’s school, the other moms in my kids’ classes have become lifelong friends that started in Pre-K and will likely end up throughout high school and hopefully college.
But it wasn’t always this easy…
When I had my first daughter, I was really young. Raised with the notion that you don’t discuss your weaknesses or failings, I was not accustomed to confiding to friends that I was having trouble with my baby sleeping through the night or when I was worried she was getting sick again. Because I was so young, I didn’t have any friends that had kids. But once I started to work at a parenting magazine, I met many moms that I related to, and my friendships with other mothers began to blossom. It has been invaluable.
Along the way I learned that nothing replaces commiserating with another mother who has been there through ear infections, sleepless nights, and discipline issues. And contrary to what I thought as a young mother, the more you can open up and confide in your fellow mothers as opposed to holding back and pretending that everything is fine when facing a challenge, the more free you become and the happier you are as a parent.
Parenting a child that you love more than anything in the world can be as scary as it is exhilarating, and leaning on other strong, supportive moms is a absolute lifesaver.

It was a life saver for being a new mom. It’s so true that we’re programmed not to complain and if we do??? We have to find humor and support in the sanity of motherhood. Don’t you think? Great blog post!
