Chuck E. Cheese - Vegas for Kids?

Do you get a pang of excitement when you go to Las Vegas, Reno or Atlantic City? That feeling of anticipation, an eagerness, a deep urge to gamble and party to your heart’s content.  Now think of your kid when you tell them they’re going to Chuck E. Cheese, yup they’re having pretty much the same kind of  rush of emotions.

While there aren’t strip clubs, cocktails and Pai Gow at Chuck E Cheese,  there are grown ups in ridiculous rodent costumes (the kid version of a show girl), caffeinated and sugary drinks (the kid version of a Long Island Ice Tea) and lots and lots and yes, lots of games.  And if you see Chuck E. Cheese as a breeding ground for future gamblers and casino regulars, you are not alone. One woman feels so strongly that Chuck E. Cheese is infecting children with a taste for gambling that she is suing the company for $5 million dollars.

San Diego resident Denise Keller is a real estate agent and the mother of two. After going to Check E Cheese on numerous occasions, she was struck with the notion that Chuck E. Cheese is pro-actively promoting childhood gambling with their games with rewards model. Her attorney said that, “we don’t think that children should be exposed to casino-style gambling devices at an arcade.”

Keller is concerned that these games are not skill based but rather games of chance, the warning sign came to her when she noted a game not unlike a roulette wheel. These games – they feel – “create the same highs and lows experienced by adults who gamble their paychecks or the mortgage payment.”

Is this just the act of a mother trying to have a big payday or is she a fighter for the cause trying to bring attention to one of society’s ills? Do you take offense to the games offered at Chuck E. Cheese? And really what’s wrong with a little Skee Ball every now and then?

GREAT SCOTT!! If she doesn’t like it why does she take her kids there?! Does CEC have a gun to her head?!

In the state of Washington Chuck E Cheese is not allowed to have video games on after ten PM due to the state gaming commission. Yet the locations continue to let the kids play well after the time deadline.

I’ve compared the atmosphere to a casino before. No clocks, visible exits, food is brought to the gaming area, blinking lights and rewarding sounds! oh my!

I think the whole thing is redculous. Some overprotective parent that can find harm in anything.

Why $5 million? What law is she alleging CEC breaks?

Robyn commented on May 17 11 at 1:29 am

OK, I found the link to the article. She’s alleging that CEC is operating illegal gambling machines. She might have a case. I know there’s a “game” where all you do is give the machine a token, and you try to stop it at a certain point to get a reward, such as 10 tickets, a cotton candy, etc. If CEC really is breaking the law, then it should stop. I’m not sure where the $5 million comes in though.

If she truly cared she wouldn’t be asking for money but for change. CEC giving her 5 mil? What for? Did she let her kids gamble that much away there?

I will use this as the model for my suit against the Catholic church down the street and their cakewheel which drives my daughter crazy as she loses dime after dime.

Exactly if she cared, she would not be suing for money but change…yet she will win in this sue crazy entitlement society or get a settlement….face palm, more like a loser looking for a huge pay out to support her failure at another’s expense (nothing about the husband right?) . As a child I grew up on video games and chuckie cheese…am I a gambler nope, do i play video games now..not really maybe 30 minutes a year for nostalgia….with such a sue crazy society no wonder america is no longer america.and we are so far in debt.. IF she doesn’t want to go to chuckie cheese she doesn’t have too NOR do her children, if she doesn’t believe in their practices, why is she supporting the franchise with her money….frivolous lawsuits , I hope she has to pay every dime back if she loses, in court fees, for the lawyers chuckie cheese had to hire, every dime then sued for defamation of character and a host of other things , first the coffee cup fiasco (common sense it is coffee, it is hot you do not drink it while you are driving), then eyes glued shut (moron kept her nail glue with her eyedrops and couldn’t tell the difference between a big yellow bottle with a red cap and a small white bottle with a blue cap?)….that would be a huge wake up call to these sue happy people. such time wasters. Hey maybe i should sue babble for taking my time (joking I swear ) Just frustrating, as I want to have a business one day..yet fear idiots like that taking me for every dime i have because they want a free life pass at my expense .
