Botox for an 8-year-old

Kerry Campbell made headlines last week when it was discovered that the San Francisco mom injected her 8-year-old daughter Britney with Botox to get her ready for the beauty pageant circuit. There has been some crazy stuff seen on shows like Toddlers and Tiaras but this attempt at getting an edge on the stage was pretty extreme. So extreme that it not only raised a red flag with city officials but that it has resulted in her daughter being taken in by family services.

Radaronline has reported that the city’s child protective services has taken Britney away from her mom while the investigation is performed. The Good Morning America host who first reported the case stated that, “I’ve spoken with someone very close to the case, she is out of her mother’s home. She’s doing well. The case is under investigation by CPS and we should have new details within a week. But the main thing here — she’s doing well.”

Authorities also want to know how Kerry Campbell got a hold of the Botox in the first place since only doctors and registered nurses are allowed to inject Botox, and none of them would ever give the anti-wrinkle drug to an 8-year-old.

Do you think that it may be a case of this woman just being misguided and not realizing that what she was doing was wrong? Do you think the city made the right move in taking the child away from the mother (albeit, it will probably only be temporary).

Oh gosh – I feel so sorry for that little girl! While I am adamantly opposed to her mother giving her Botox injections and think that is utterly insane, I think taking her away from her mother is horrible.

It is obvious from the interview that the mother loves her daughter dearly and honestly didn’t think giving Botox was a bad thing. I’m sure that, after the uproar of all this, she will not be injecting more – but to take her child away? That’s outrageous.

Simply tell her she’s not allowed to put more poison into her daughter’s face and allow them to live happily together.

She obviously did not think anything was wrong or she would not have gone on national tv. They will probably make her take some classes & get her daughter back … all of this will blow over shortly …

Good!!! This woman has obtained drugs illegally, is injecting them into a family member without a license? This is child abuse — in the name of the mother’s vapid facial beauty standards. Did you hear the part, when they questioned the girl about why she had to get the shots, she didn’t know, until her mother PROMPTED her and she said “because wrinkles aren’t nice”?

I hope they sentence the mother to 500 hours community service volunteering in a burn ward, and make her sell all the thousands of dollars of pageant clothes and give the money to a cleft-palate-surgery charity. I really hope so.
