Mom Defends Botox For 8 Year-Old Daughter on Good Morning America [VIDEO]
![]()
A month or so ago, I wrote about Kerry Campbell, the San Francisco mom who injects her 8 year-old daughter with Botox to minimize her “wrinkles”. Today, Campbell made an appearance on Good Morning America to explain herself. Campbell was completely unapologetic about her choices, saying flatly that if Britney is to succeed in the cut-throat world of kiddie beauty pageants, she’s going to have to have Botox.
In a heartbreaking interview with GMA correspondent Lara Spencer, Britney is asked why she gets the injections. Her first answer: “I don’t know.” After a bit of coaching from her mom, she acknowledges that she doesn’t like the wrinkles on her face, a puzzling concept, until we learn that she’s actually talking about the lines that appear on her face when she’s smiling.
Kerry Campbell is adamant in her stance, which is, essentially: “Everybody’s doing it”.
Lara Spencer points out that her son comes home every day asking for the new X Box game. But she doesn’t buy it for him just because everybody else does. In the post-interview wrap up, Spencer tells George Stephanopoulus that this interview was really tough for her as a mother, because she felt so strongly that what Kerry Campbell is doing is wrong.
It’s a bit upsetting to watch this little girl with her mother, who appears to me to have coached her daughter to respond to interview questions in a specific way (Every time she says “It hurts”, she quickly follows with “I get used to it”). Campbell seems unwilling or unable to acknowledge any harm that her actions might cause, continually returning to the refrain of “I’m not the only one.” When Dr. Charles Sophy, a psychiatrist, is interviewed about Britney, he says he is in disbelief, and horrified. He suggests that there may be projection on the part of the mother, worries about the lasting effects this might have on Britney, and calls for a psychological intervention.
After watching Kerry Campbell in action, I’m pretty worried about Britney’s psychological well being in general. Watch the video and see if you agree.

goddess commented on May 12 11 at 12:22 pmCampbell says: “Everybody’s doing it!”
My own mother would have said,
a.) *I* am not everyone’s mother. I am *your8 mother and you’re not doing it
then:
b.) “If everyone jumped off of a cliff, would you follow them?”
I heard those 2 lines so many times I KNEW by adolescence that the absolute WORST argument I could bring to the table was “Everyone is doing it!”
My own kids know better than to use it too.
Perhaps Campbell needed to hear that.
Maybe she should be required to write it 1000x a day form a padded cell- and get that little girl some help!
Amanda commented on May 12 11 at 12:37 pmSince when do 8 year olds have wrinkles? This woman is an idiot, and this borders on abuse.
ND commented on May 12 11 at 1:03 pmWHAT A HORRIBLE SELFISH MOTHER.
That’s just teaching your child and others that looks are all that matter. HORRIBLE ROLE MODEL. Child protective services should provide that child with a better, LOVING family. That’s my take, AS a mother TO a mother.
Ron commented on May 12 11 at 1:24 pmThis is criminal child abuse!
Manjari commented on May 12 11 at 1:39 pmThis is why people need to seek mental help BEFORE reproducing. It’s so sad.
Dr.Ed Domanskis,Plastic Surgeon,Newport Beach,California commented on May 12 11 at 2:19 pmI was/am aghast to see this. I question the sanity of the parent in injecting Botox on their child! Botox has potential problems by itself, albeit rare. That in addition to the psychological effects that this would have on a child, ie that you need this to look good, would lead me to question this parent’s stability! Dr. Ed Domanskis
jacquie commented on May 12 11 at 2:28 pmThis woman belongs in jail. Here is a link to a story recently of a man who was sentenced to 6 YEARS IN JAIL for putting a tattoo on his son…This lady should receive the same penalty!!!
jazmine commented on May 12 11 at 5:06 pmAbsolutely horrible. How could a mother do that to her own child. Not only subject her to actual physical harm, but the amount of psychological harm she is doing is unbelievable! How selfish. If the pageant world is so hard, then find a new hobby. Our children are not toys for us to put ribbons on, they are humans who deserve to be respected, loved and guided. Shame on ANYONE who is doing this to their child.
Diane commented on May 12 11 at 5:18 pmI would love to see your producers follow up with child protective services. It is one thing to put women like that on TV for ratings and yet it is another to help or not help the child after you are done. Please take the time and follow up and find someone who can protect this child and all the other children this is happening to. The child is beautiful just the way she is and should not have this women raising her. Just because she gave birth to the child doesn’t give her the right to cause harm. Please do more then just report this abuse.
Ann commented on May 12 11 at 6:09 pmYou all covered how crazy the mother is… I have little more to add to that… I want to know:
Where is she getting the Botox? Who is doing the injections? Botox requires a valid RX from a licensed DR. What DR is supervising this and allowing this to be administered to a child…..
Monica commented on May 12 11 at 8:32 pmIt’s just disgusting! They need to find out who the doctor is too. The mother knows it’s wrong, that’s why she wouldn’t say in the interview who supplies her with the Botox. Someone needs to step in here because the everyone mentality is very scary. My 12 year old daughter told me today that none of her friends get grounded and I had to remind her that I’m not everyone else’s mother, I’m her mother and I will never do something just because everyone else is doing it and I expect the same out of her. We need to be good role models for our daughters and this woman is not one for hers.
Laura commented on May 12 11 at 9:12 pmThis is real creepy! In grade school I had twin friends who did commercials and there mother had there front teeth pulled for a commercial!Sick!!
Josey commented on May 12 11 at 10:33 pmThe child should be taken away from thi unfit and clearly abusive mother.
Reported to Law Enforcement commented on May 13 11 at 1:08 amReported to San Francisco Police Department for physical and psychological abuse of a child as well as illicit drug use.
Amy commented on May 13 11 at 5:27 amCRUEL! PSYCHO! If your daughter is not born pretty, ACCEPT IT..
Other people are crazy, why do you have to follow the trend?
She is 8 years old, but she looks 18!
Becky commented on May 13 11 at 11:54 amI don’t understand how this is not child abuse. I agree with needing to find who is prescribing this – there is no pediatric indication for the cosmetic use of this drug. She is risking permanent damage to her childs face!
Paula commented on May 13 11 at 1:30 pmthis mother is sick. She ought to have a mental evaluation and have her child put in someone else’s home who has a little sense of perspective.
Paula commented on May 13 11 at 1:58 pmAnd why all the secrecy about where she gets the botox? Is what she’s doing illegal? This is insanity. Where is the dad? He ought to be busting his rear end trying to get this kid away from her mom. The kid WANTS the botox because she’s been taught a ridiculous standard that she is supposed to meet. If this kid doesn’t end up severely depressed as a teenager I will be shocked.
Kolin Hibbert commented on May 13 11 at 7:56 pmThis is a horrible example of how warped people’s values are becoming, and how logic and rationality are becoming extinct. This pageant-reject mother has forced her own unfulfilled dreams on her daughter, and is completely damaging and distorting her daughter’s self image. If it’s legal for a parent to do that to her child, then the laws need to be changed. There is no valid medical reason for these treatments, and the damage caused by them is going to weigh in far more than the headaches Britney is showing in the post-injection pictures. She’s going to grow up with no sense of self worth, and she’ll become addicted to every form of cosmetic upgrade available.
That girl needs to be rescued from her mom, and her mom needs to be shoved in front of a cable car.
Sheri Noga MA commented on May 14 11 at 9:27 amAs a psychotherapist in practice for over 30 years and author of a book on parenting, one thing I know for sure is that some people are too troubled to raise children in a normal fashion. This woman’s behavior is unquestionably an expression of her own narcissism. Her child’s self image cannot remain normal if she is treated as defective enough to require botox injections. One can only hope that this girl has some exposure to the public’s response to her mother’s outrageous behavior. Children do much better when they receive validation of a disturbing reality in their family.

Magali Rodrigues commented on May 17 11 at 9:40 amI can not believe that is happen in U.S.A and this mother was getting in prison or something like that . Where is the human rights? The mother should stop to hurt your girl and start to look at the mirror, the mother is such a ungly woman (inside and outside -fat sick woman)
alma jaro commented on May 21 11 at 10:18 amwhat a psycho pathetic mother! she doesn’t know what is beauty really means… an eight year old girl should not worry what she look like as long as she is healthy and happy, let her play, get dirt, eat sweet, let her climb trees, run, cry and laugh.. why worry for wrinkles?stop that bad ass mother..
