Will Passage of the DREAM Act Be the Promise of a New Day for Underage Illegal Immigrants?
A new bill being proposed in the United States Senate would provide the potential for citizenship to kids who were brought to the country illegally.
In order to qualify to for legal status under the DREAM Act, an immigrant must have arrived illegally on U.S. soil when they were 15 or younger and remained for five consecutive years, committed no crimes, graduated from high school or obtained a G.E.D., and aim to complete at least two years of college or enter the military.
The introduction of the DREAM Act (or reintroduction, as it was originally presented but failed to pass during the final lame-duck session of the last Congress) was announced as President Obama announced yesterday in Texas the need to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws.
Senate majority leader Harry Reid of Nevada and Senators Dick Durbin of Illinois and Robert Menendez of New Jersey are the bill’s main supporters. The thinking behind the bill is to provide upstanding young people with the opportunity to enter the national work and military force.
Those opposed to the bill argue that it constitutes amnesty, and that border patrol should take priority over the proposed measure.
What do you think of the DREAM Act? Is there any harm in seeing it passed?

We want a monopoly on smart industrious people. Smart industrious people grow the economy and create jobs. The best thing that could happen to this country is every smart industrious person comes here – gets educated and stays. There is a reason after WWII we took as many of the smart Europeans we could. We invited them (in some cases we didn’t so much ask as tell them). We did really well after WWII due in no small part to the fresh infusion of smart people.
Right now we have smart people who do well in school who we aren’t letting learn and grow by going to collage. It is really stupid that we have this problem.
Amanda commented on May 11 11 at 5:00 pmAm I the only one who is stumped as to how in the world an illegal immigrant could get into the military or a US college in the first place? How do you NOT need an SS#, proof of legal residency, or a student visa???
Harold Mathowietz commented on May 11 11 at 5:27 pmI am so sick of these politicians attempting time after time to make established criminals citizens of our country. A pathetic way to try to build your voter base. Let us arrest these criminals and deport them as soon as possible.
Meagan commented on May 11 11 at 6:46 pmHow is a child an established criminal? Yes, illegal immigration is… well, illegal, but I don’t see the problem with letting children who’ve lived most of their life in the US go to school here, or join the military. Kids rarely have any say in where they live their life, but for most of the kids who this law would affect, this is their home, legal or not.
Raul commented on May 11 11 at 6:46 pmHarold,it’s thinking like yours that makes us all look bad,I myself am a legal citizen born here by parents who were born here.yet I see this as a boost for economy, and beyond that,it’s just nor right to deport someone who did not come here under their own will to illegally cross the border.how can this boost economy you ask, simple, these people who are here illegally do not currently pay taxes, but by becoming legal they would have to.not
To mention the high costs of the immigration process if the bill does pass.plus how many of these people do you think drive cars without a licence,(I’ve been hit by one) they carry mo insurance and if I wouldnt have had the uninsured motorist coverage I would have been f$&ked.just not right to not pass this dream act
michelle commented on May 11 11 at 10:21 pmAmerica became a great nation by welcoming the best and brightest of other countries. Now we yell “Get out!” and slam the door. Guess what America is now becoming as a result? Yes, a second-rate power. We should do whatever we can to make sure the most educated, motivated immigrants stay here.

The Tea Party in America has affirmed that the illegal alien population will begin to shrink instead of growing, if we support candidates that will reflect the will of the vast majority of American citizens. The revolt within the Republican Party is the TEA PARTY who is resentful of both political parties having agendas to support their individual empowerment. for millions of extra votes for Democrats and for the GOP exploitable cheap labor. Neither is the belief of the TEA PARTY that wants stronger enforcement at the North and Southern border, which includes a National Guard presence, with the ability for the interdiction of drug smuggling, weapons dealers and illegal immigrants, with force if necessary? Furthermore, the mandated use of the new version of E-Verify, that carries tough penalties for businesses that hire workers, without legal status. In addition, the Permanent operation of “Secure Communities” in local police locations, to fingerprint and check their criminal charges through ICE data bases.
Those Lawmakers, Governors, Mayors and municipal officials who catered to the illegal immigration, open border nuts, special interests and radical ethnocentric groups as La Raza, will be voted out of office by the TEA PARTY. These elected officials will take full responsibility for not repressing illegal immigration into their States, by not enacting policing laws or other enforcement. California, Nevada is examples of Sanctuary States and is visibly suffering from Loss of revenue by economic illegal aliens that have settled there.
The Tea Party will not tolerate any further Amnesties as after the Great 1986 Amnesty laws were ignored by both parties. The late Ted Kennedy accorded to The People that there would never be another amnesty, that this was a “One Time” assurance. Or is US government lying to us again? . The 2006 Secure (Double) Fence Act was intentionally unfunded just months after being enacted. The Tea Party apposes Sanctuary Cities, Chain Migration and the court mishandled instant citizen for babies intentionally conceived to gain entrance for illegal parents into America. The Dream Act, which in turn will add to the Chain Migration and Immigration Reform, a misleading name for Amnesty. All these lenient rewards, just encourages further exploitation and a unfettered magnet to financial benefits and public services once crossing the border or overstaying expired visas.
The American people have woken up and each day are finding that the Tea Party (perhaps third party) are more like their middle class interpretation that they are striving for? The Tea Party stands somewhere between Democrats and Republicans in definition, as moderate Conservatism have received amazing results in such a short time. So Join the TEA PARTY as the revolution has just begun, to fade out the radical people who run this country. Skilled immigrants with high profession job expertise will receive the hospitality of all Americans, including the Tea party members. But we must stop the unfettered incursion of people, who will need welfare assistance and will displace impoverished Americans who still have manual jobs. The TEA PARTY is the American peoples expeditious route to break away from RINO,S and Liberal-Marxist Extremist and Democrats.
With no excuses to their alternate parties, member politicians are moving to the TEA PARTY, as a means to prove their loyalty to all Americans. Something that must be stipulated is that individuals, illegal aliens and small groups of radical activists have infiltrated the TEA PARTY and displaying dangerous activities, within the ranks of average, citizens and residents. They are causing violent disturbances making it seem that TEA PARTY’ERS are foul-mouthed louts, as found in the Trade Union. Organizations. Arizona has became a “Litmus Test” against unconstitutional practices by Obama Czarists against this border State over the epicenter of the economic illegal alien invasion, depleting welfare and public services. They now request the American people’s help, in building the original fence by donating money, as the US Legislators have failed miserably. Go to the Arizona Governor Brewer website, by surfing it on Google. Taxpayer must take their Politicians to task whether federal or State, by calling their offices as soon as possible at Senate—202-224–3121/ House—202-225–3121 or locate these lawmakers in your phone directory blue pages. NumbersUSA for more details regarding this incendiary issue.
Potential Presidential contender Donald Trump today in his conference is saying what other political mouthpieces are induced not to say that China and Mexico are destroying America. This nation must become a major manufacture of products again. Thousands of US companies have moved abroad, as our government has offered incentives to do so? Trump says put a 25% percent tariff’s on goods imported into this country, on trade from cheap labor countries, or we are going the way of the dinosaur and rapidly. China, South Korea, India, Mexico are taking unfair advantage, that why we owe 40 cents of every dollar to foreign countries and their investors.

Four Roadblocks to Obama’s Immigration Reform—US NEWS
“ECONOMIC ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTSA thieft is somebody who enters yours house and stole a tv, a thieft is somebody who stole a car, and you ARE A THIEFT because you stole somebody else’s job when you copy and paste with out putting name and author , you see how easy is to find a BAD person in your case a BAD THIEFT
Van Thai commented on May 12 11 at 11:23 pmPoliticians who are talking about immigration reform, Dream Act or some other later hypocrite terminology are hidding in vain their pure and simple search for hispanic votes. Didn’t President Obama make explicit calls to to Blacks and Hipanics to flock their ballots to him and then if Caucasians just vote 30% for him, he still will win. To me itt’s not Immigration Reform, not Dream Act but broken immigration, immigration problem, immigration burden in all aspects, crime, health care, schools, social benefits, language, racial tension, political tension and unrest (remember racial riots between Blacks and Hispanics in Florida years ago; remember prohibition of Americcan flag display at school in California; remember hispanics violnt demonstration in Arizona, of which many are coming from out of State; remember hispanic teacher (s) once in US start struggle for socialism and on and on….)
There is only a good and beneficial Immigration Policy for the US, that’s a fair, equitable, unbiased and diversified policy to various countries and races which assure a balance in the racial composition of immigrants, which will be apt to eliminate the spectrum of problems cited above.
Regarding the work contribution of immigrants to US economy, there are plenty of statiistics other immigrant races have performed outstanding results in business, education, science, technology or as simple and happy laborers as well.
Dearel commented on May 16 11 at 10:52 amI write a daily blog concering national issues and, alas, a good 25 percent of my blog entries have dealth with problems related to illegal immigration. In my blog entry last month I proposed a solution to the Dream Act. Should you wish to read it just google “The Only Dream Act Feasible”. I think my suggestion provides a balanced and fair solution to this problem.
