Major Drug Bust In Family-Friendly NYC Nabe, Dealer Sold Heroin With Young Son In Car
Think you’re family friendly neighborhood is too high-priced or heavily trafficked to have a sizeable drug ring right next door? Think again.
Brooklyn’s beloved Park Slope, land of stroller wars and lesbian discounts which has become symbolic of young urban parenthood turns out to be more than a prime location for families. It turns out the neighborhood has housed a major heroin operation that was luckily busted this week.
At least a dozen members of a drug ring that sold more than $70,000 in heroin to undercover cops were arrested in the close-knit community.
The NY Daily News reports that Edwin Perez, 32, and two of his closest associates – Francisco Perez, 33, and Jose Trinidad, 42 – were the main suppliers for Park Slope drug dealers.
Over 1,400 glassines of heroin stashed in a front compartment of a motorcycle belonging to Edwin Perez. He is also the father of a preschool aged son who would accompany him and sit in the front seat when his father sold the heroin to drug addicts. Police seized five and a half pounds of heroin from the main mill (worth $1.5 million), $50,000 in cash, and 100,000 glassine envelopes which had brand names such as “Spring Break,” “Roger Dat,” “True Love,” and “LeBron James.”
The bust was a result of a year-long investigation between the NYPD’s Narcotics Borough Brooklyn South and the Drug Enforcement Agency’s New York Field Division.
In addition to the dozen defendants tied to four drug crews, police also arrested eight other suspected dealers.
Drugs are everywhere and dealers are always looking for inventive ways to blend into family friendly neighborhoods. Just last month, I wrote about an ice cream truck in Staten Island that sold Oxycodone alongside ice cream cones.
Amidst its stellar schools and sleek brownstones, Park Slope is one of the most sought after neighborhoods in New York City for parents. This story just goes to show that even the so-called best family places are not without their problems. In this case, location, location, location just doesn’t guarantee it all.
