8-Year-Old Brings Handgun To School, Sells It For Three Bucks
An 8-year-old boy from Queens, NY is under arrest for bringing a 9-mm. handgun to school yesterday and selling it to a classmate for three dollars. The boy who “bought” the gun thought it was a toy, went home and excitedly showed his mother who was horrified to learn it was not only a real gun, but it was loaded.
The angry mom immediately took the gun back to her son’s school and filled in officials on what transpired. A school administrator called the police.
Soon after, the boy who sold the gun and his father, Ignacio Galvin, 54, were arrested and charged with three counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Galvin was also charged for “acting in a manner to injure a minor.” The gun was registered in Galvin’s name.
Officials say the case will be handled through family court.
My son’s friends often bring Pokemon cards to school and trade them with each other. At age 8, this is one of their favorite games. One time my son “bought” a card for a dime. It was innocent play and a normal part of negotiating on the playground, I think. I simply cannot imagine him bringing home a gun from school. Thankfully, the father was arrested and all the children involved are safe….it could have ended up far worse.

Angela commented on Apr 29 11 at 2:06 pmI’m glad that everyone was safe but think it’s a shame that an 8 year old is under arrest because his parents were stupid enough to give him access to a loaded gun.
Danielle Sullivan commented on Apr 29 11 at 4:53 pmI agree and I’m kinda shocked that an eight-year-old CAN get arrested.
