schoolhouse 300x246 Top 10 Best School Districts for Your Real Estate DollarI don’t know about you, but I’ve known several people who have relocated purely so their child would have the chance to go to a better school. Most just move to a neighboring suburb, but some families are willing to completely relocate, even to another state, to give their children a better life.  But moving, especially when one is buying a house to reside in, is a pretty big deal. Where are the places that you can get the most bang for your buck in terms of property prices and the quality of the schools?

Here are the top ten schools districts as rated by Forbes Magazine, but it’s quite a range in terms of cost from median home prices ranging from $148, 200 to $1,278,980. That area with the one-million-dollar houses must have some pretty amazing academics to rate as the best for your real estate dollar. So what made the list?

10. Southlake, Texas

9. St. Johns, Fla.

8. Parkland, Fla

7. Moraga, Calif.

6. Manhattan Beach, Calif.

5. . Bedford, N.H.

4. Barrington, R.I.

3. Pella, Iowa

2. Mercer Island, Wash.

1. Falmouth, Maine

Would you move for your kid’s education, and if so, would you move to any of those towns?

Yes! We moved to a neighboring town in Northern NJ so our kids would get a better education. We also tripled our taxes in the process. I really, truly hope it was the right decision…we’ll see next year when we start in the elementary school, I guess.

I have raised my son in the Cow Hollow district of SF but we are one of the lucky families that got into Claire Lilienthal. We were faced with that same terror as all parents in SF with kids entering Kindergarten. I believe if we did not get into such an amazing school we would have eventually moved to Marin County. I am curious why Morage, CA made the list and not a single city in Marin. Excellent schools and while real estate isn’t cheap there it’s more affordable than SF. My son is entering High School next year and once again we are faced with the reality of the broken SFUSD system. Since my ex-husband lives in Corte Madera we opted for Marin Schools. So even though I am staying put for now, my son will be relocating a good portion of his life to Marin.

oh Cari! I know exactly what you mean. I’m in SF as well and just finished up the tedious and very intense process of getting a good school for our daughter. We feel very fortunate. Hope things go well for your son in the Marin school district – I’ve only heard good things!

Sorry, but I disagree about Mercer Island. That is an extremely expensive, elite area to live to there is no way that the education is *that* much better than other area districts for what you’d have to pay in real estate prices.

I would never send my child to Southlake schools. The kids are elitist snobs and too many of the parents are pushy.
