Will The Wedding Of Prince William and Kate Middleton Matter To Our Kids?
Am I the only one not interested in this week’s upcoming Royal wedding?
Everything from regular television shows down to the Disney channel programming has been changed to reflect Friday’s upcoming nuptials between Prince William and Kate Middleton. Disney renamed this week, Royal Wedding Week. Do kids even care?
I remember back when Princess Diana married Charles but my memory was a little foggy since I was seven. What I do remember is that the adults around me were mesmerized by the wedding. I remember Diana’s beautiful wedding dress and seeing her walk down the aisle. It was every girl’s dream.
When I was a kid, I watched the wedding through idealized eyes, not having knowledge of the royal ways. It was before we were privy to Diana’s private pain and way before the Fergie debacle. It seems to me that Diana is a mere memory. She seems to have been forgotten in the shadows of Camilla Parker-Bowles, the woman who Charles began an adulterous affair with while still married to Princess Di.
Camilla is said to have told her future step daughter-in-law that if Kate stays out of her business, she will stay out of Kate’s. I can’t help but wonder what advice Lady Di would have given the young and happy bride. Surely, it would have been more motherly, loving and definitely more practical.
What I tend to think about most when I think of this wedding is how Prince William might feel without his mother there. I think about how it must feel to have Camilla, the woman who personally caused his mother intense heartache, not only at his wedding but standing at his father’s side.
In this respect, maybe it’s easier for kids to enjoy the beauty of the big wedding without knowing the back story. To them, it’s a fairytale that has come to life.
My son is not in the least interested in this wedding, but he’s a boy and not interested in anyone’s wedding. I think little girls might feel differently about watching Friday’s festivities.
Will your kids watch the Royal wedding? Do they care? And will you watch?

I won’t be watching. Seems like no one has anything else to talk about lately. My kids 7 and 5 don’t know about it and probably wouldn’t be very interested anyway.
Amanda commented on Apr 25 11 at 12:34 pmI’m a little sick of people putting down the royal wedding, honestly. It’s a nice little distraction from all the horrible things going on right now (gas & food prices rising, unrest in the Middle East, budget fights in Washington, etc.). It’s something pleasant in the news, for once. I look forward to watching it (probably on DVR) and seeing what Kate will wear, how she’ll do her hair, etc, and my 9 month old son will watch it with me. ; )
Risingabq commented on Apr 25 11 at 2:58 pmI personally think that Camilla has no right to be there where Princess Diana would have been even with a divorce from Prince Charles. She has caused so much heartache. I hope she doesn’t create heartache for William and Kate. I also don’t think she should be Queen nor Prince Charles. After all, divorce has always been a reason that a Prince could not become King. I think I’d rather see Prince William and Kate to become the next King and Queen. But than we America’s don’t have much to say or do about that.

Personally, I love the pomp and circumstance involved, and I think Will and Kate seem like a genuinely happy couple. I’ll be watching.
