Mom Injects 8 Year Old Daughter With Botox, Twisted Sense of Self Worth

Screen shot 2011 03 24 at 12.21.48 PM 196x300 Mom Injects 8 Year Old Daughter With Botox, Twisted Sense of Self WorthI’ve heard of some horrible things happening in the name of “beauty”, but this story is right up there: Kerry Campbelll, a mom in San Francisco home-injects her daughter with Botox to prevent development of wrinkles. (Because I don’t know about you, but once I hit 8 and a half, my face started going WAY downhill.) This mom is convinced that she is doing this for her daughter’s own good. Her daughter, perhaps unsurprisingly, is on the kiddie pageant circuit—and her mom feels that her daughter’s perfectly smooth skin will give her the edge she needs to become a star.

So many things wrong here. First, the fact that Botox is not approved for children and we have zero information on the effects of botulism toxin on growing bodies. But the thing that really freaked me out about this story was how directly this mom equated the modification of her daughter’s body with her hopes for stardom. It’s not that she thinks these treatments will help her daughter become famous. She seems to see them as an instrumental tool for her daughter’s career. And naturally, her third grader does too—which is why she’s begging for injections whenever she sees an expression line form in her face.

Instead of recognizing this as evidence that she’s completely skewed her daughter’s view of what her face is supposed to look like—the horror of scanning for wrinkles at the age of EIGHT—she seems to be using this to justify her bizarre actions with her daughter’s complicity. See, she likes it!

But then, if she were the kind of person who could see that an eight year old worrying about wrinkles is a terrible thing,  she probably wouldn’t be the kind of person to inject her eight year old’s face with poison in the first place. Or to give her daughter full body waxes, not to remove currently offensive hair growth, but to damage the hair follicles and discourage the growth of pubic hair in the future. Is she priming her for Kiddie Pageants, or  Adult Porn?  The aesthetic seems disturbingly similar.

Kerry adamantly defends herself, truly, apparently, believing that this is part of her responsibility as a parent. “I’m sure people reading this will think I am being irresponsible, but….All I want is for Britney to have the best start in life, so it is easier for her to become a superstar.”

“I wish that I’d had the same advantages when I was younger.”

“She is a lucky little girl and is going to be famous because of the benefits I am giving her so early.

“All this pain and effort now will benefit Britney no end.”

“When she’s a superstar earning millions, she’ll always be grateful for what I did when she was so young.”

I can think of a few choice words Britney might want to substitute for “grateful” someday.

What?!? Full body waxes and botox at 8? Let the girl be a KID! I was 19 before I even had my eyebrows waxed!! And waxing other body parts are PAINFUL even for adults… my legs hurt the worst!

you nailed this.

that woman likely derives some sort of innate pleasure though Britney’s “beauty” and potential to be a “superstar” who earns “millions.”

sadly, she’ll probably never realize that it’s *her* unrealized hopes and dreams driving this — *her* low esteem and non existent self worth.

so sad.

If she really wanted her child to have the best start in life, she probably should not have named her Britney : /

I hope Britney earns millions because she’s going to need that much therapy once her mother is through prepping her body for sale.

This ought to be grounds to remove the child for abuse. Sick mother.

How is she getting the botox? it’s prescription only

That’s the biggest crock i’ve ever heard.

There are so many things wrong with what this woman is doing on so many different levels. How does she know the botox won’t turn to poison and disfigure her daughter when she’s older?

This woman is a moron. Kids don’t get wrinkles! When her daughter is grown and can make her own decisions, then SHE can decide if she wants Botox. People like this should be arrested for child abuse!
