Man Can

A 13-year-old became filled with the entrepreneurial spirit. The boy started his own scented candle business. And not just any floral, fancy aroma for him. His line called Man Cans and  features the scent of such manly things as bacon, pizza and the odor of a leather baseball mitt.  Why did young Hart Main start a candle business in the first place? Because he was making fun of his sister.

This just proves sibling rivalry does apparently have a place. The boy’s sister had apparently been selling “girly” scented candles as a fundraiser for her school. He said, “I was making fun of her because they were really girly scents and the idea came to me that there weren’t any man-scented candles.” He saw a need and filled it. He started his company last Thanksgiving. The candle holders are reused soup cans, he donated the soup contents to a local soup kitchen and reused the tin cans for his candle making empire. So not only is he industrious but is socially responsible too, his parents must be proud

Each candle sells for $5 and he’s sold about 500 of them, not a bad start.

Yeah, I’ll be skipping those. To me, the entire purpose of nice smelling candles is to make the house NOT smell like my husband and two sons.

Oh Linda! Fresh cut grass doesn’t sound so bad! :) And I would SOOOO buy the bacon one. I love the smell of bacon. Plus, it is a great way to have the house smell like you’re cooking :)

While I kind of want to take issue with the notion that there are “girly” scents and “manly” scents in the first place, I have to say, this was a pretty clever little entrepreneurial idea…and appears to be well-executed, too.
