As iPad 2 Lines Form, Student Sells Top Spot for $900 [VIDEO]
If you’ve finally made up your mind to get an iPad, you’re not alone. But if you’re wanting an iPad 2, you’re going to have to get in line. Like, now!
People are queuing up hundreds deep at Apple Inc. stores in Manhattan and San Francisco to get their hands on the tablet computer, which, unlike it’s predecessor, is thin and has a camera (just like supermodels!).
But you might not have to stand in a long Apple store line, even if you want one tonight. Here are a couple of ways to avoid long waits:
Buy your way out of it, like college student Amanda Foote did. She sold her first-in-line for an iPad 2 spot for $900, after camping out in front of Apple’s flagship store in New York since Wednesday.
You only saved up enough for the device itself? That’s OK, too. In a break from its usual protocol, the iPad 2 will also be sold at 200 other outlets for Apple products. So at 5 p.m. today, a bunch of AT&T and Verizon Wireless stores, as well as Best Buy, Target Corp and Wal-Mart Stores Inc., will release the product.
So go and get in one of those shorter lines.
According to Reuters, tablet sales are expected to exceed the 50 million unit mark and 70 percent will be made by Apple.
What do you think, iPad Moms and Dads: are they worth the money? What about the wait in line? Since kids are begging for them, shouldn’t they do some of the heavy-lifting of actually getting one?
Or if standing around taking part of a big consumer spectacle isn’t your thing, maybe you could try winning one for a mom with clout.

Madeline Holler commented on Mar 11 11 at 5:01 pmWhat I don’t get, GP, is the obsession with being the first in line, nevermind paying for it. I also don’t get the need to buy something on the first day it’s out. I’m so willing to wait. But then, I’m the kind of person that can let presents sit under the Christmas tree and not even be tempted to shake or peek.
