Skippy Peanut Butter Recall In 16 States
Before you pack up those Monday morning lunches, you might want to check the numbers of the peanut butter jars in your cupboard.
The manufacturer of Skippy peanut butter issued a recall on Friday of Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread and Skippy Reduced Fat Super Chunk Peanut Butter Spread. The jars in question may be contaminated with salmonella. The recall spans 16 states.
Unilever United States, Inc., announced on Friday that some jars of the peanut butter may contain the organism. Salmonella can cause fatal infections in young children, people with compromised immune systems and the elderly people.
The jars which may be affected are the 16.3 ounce plastic jars. Look for the following UPC numbers:
UPCs: 048001006812 and 048001006782 (located on the side of the jar’s label below the bar code.)
Best-If-Used-By Dates: MAY1612LR1, MAY1712LR1, MAY1812LR1, MAY1912LR1, MAY2012LR1 and MAY2112LR1 (Stamped on the lid of the jar.)
The contaminated jars were delivered to stores in Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.
A release by Unilever says that no illnesses have yet been linked to the potentially tainted peanut butter so far. They urge consumers to check the jars they have, and discard if the UPC numbers match the numbers above.
If you find yourself with one of these jars, you can contact the company for a replacement coupon at 1-800-453-3432.
