Breast Milk Ice Cream Seized
If you haven’t yet tried London’s “Baby Gaga” breast milk ice cream, you’ve missed your chance. At least for the moment.
The ridiculous treat has been seized from the London-based ice cream parlor, Icreamists, that introduced it last week. City officials say they have confiscated the ice cream for testing. They claim concerns about health and food safety, specifically saying they are worried the ice cream could pass along hepatitis.
Really? Icreamist’s founder calls the city’s worries ridiculous. Certainly the flavor has found plenty of fans, causing long lines outside the shop. But it weirded lots of people out too. Apparently Westminster’s city council falls into the latter category.
“Baby Gaga” contained mother’s milk, but wasn’t made exclusively from it. It sounds like the flavor was more of a novelty than anything else. Human milk is sweeter than cow’s milk, but ice cream is sweet anyway. I wonder if you’d even be able to taste the difference.
I also wonder if it would be acceptable to eat breast milk ice cream if you were a vegan, since presumably it was willingly expressed and given or sold to the ice cream parlor for this purpose?
But I digress. I think it’s likely that the health officials will find nothing wrong with this breast milk ice cream, and that Baby Gaga will soon be back on the market.
Then we’ll have to ask the same question we started with: Would you try some?

Jo commented on Mar 01 11 at 11:50 pmI tried my own breast milk and it is sweet. I don’t think I would want to try someoneelse’s though. To each their own, but I like my milk organic and I know that cow isn’t eating/drinking chemicals I may not want in my milk. Also, I get this weird image of women being hooked up to big milk pumps like they do cows and that is just disturbing!

I teased him for not being vegan anymore and he used the argument you outline here to defend his actions. That said, although it may not violate his food ethics, I doubt he would have felt so willing about the milk of any breast other than my own.
