WATCH: India vs England World Cup 2011 Live Streaming: Where, When & Why Our Kids Do Not Play
India vs England 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup match is a big deal. A really big deal. And for those wanting to tune in to the live stream of today’s game, from anywhere in the world, it’s pretty easy albeit pricey. Yes, you needn’t pack your bags and jet off to Bangalore to get your Cricket on. When, where and why should you tune in? And why oh why isn’t Cricket more popular in the states?
The live telecast of India vs England will be shown by STAR Cricket Live TV Channel but for those in the states, the way to watch is via Willow TV – the American hub for all things cricket. But one thing, it’s not cheap. For the World Cup subscription package costs $129 which gives you access to watch the games on your computer, iPad and smartphone allowing you to keep track of the score anywhere and everywhere. And another thing you can do? Teach your American kids about the sport which is ridiculously popular in England, India, Australia, Ireland, Pakistan and other far flung lands. But here in the USA, most just think cricket is a bug that hear when you go camping. Our kids rather follow and play baseball, football or basketball. But that wasn’t always the case.
In the mid-19th century Cricket was a popular here in America, but it was replaced by the invention of baseball. There is evidence that baseball was actually inspired by cricket. And some argue that what really killed cricket in America was a marketing push for baseball that followed the Civil War. In 1871 the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players was established, traveling the land playing the game. While Cricket – at the time – was just regional, not leading to a unified passion for the pastime. Many of the big cricket players of the time made the switch to baseball and never looked back.
Today there is an estimated 15 million cricket fans in the states, but how any of those are kids? And are parents passing down how to play and the rules of the game? It seems that there is already a struggle to get the most popular sport in the world – soccer – to be more important here. If another sport could and would join the ranks of baseball, football and basketball it seems soccer would be the one to make it rather than cricket. Instead, it is probably destined to be on the sidelines, being confused yet again with that bug in the backyard.
But if you want to try to introduce your kids to the game, you can always watch it live from Willow TV right here.
