Justin Bieber Haircut

Let’s say, for arguments sake, that you have a 16-year-old son. And that kid of yours got his haircut. Now, in most scenarios, the only people who would notice his new do would be his grandma, his soccer coach and maybe that girl who has a crush on him in biology class. But when Justin Bieber cuts his hair? It generates as much press as does a country going through a revolution, a middle east leader lashing out or a devastating earthquake.

Why does this become headline news, and not just to the preteen set who worshiped at his meticulously coiffed, side-swiped bangs?

Justin Bieber’s power goes beyond just his underage target demographic. There are parents who sing along with “Baby, Baby, Baby.” Folks who actually enjoyed Never Say Never when they took the kids to a showing on opening weekend. Moms who take their sons in to the hairdresser to get “The Bieber.”

But in the end, Justin Bieber is just 16. This isn’t the first time that a teenager has gotten this much attention, and it’s not the last time either. But for a haircut? This must be some kind of record.

What would you think if your 16-year-old son made such big waves for getting a trim? And is it creepy that so many care?

Hey, if my kid and his haircut were on the covers of magazines, and if millions of people were giving him money and he was all over television, and if he had a very odd haircut that became strongly identified with him, and he cut his hair, well, yeah, I might expect someone other than his grandma, his soccer coach and one kid in the biology class to notice.

Now, here’s another tough question: If the birdbath in your backyard fell over, would you expect it to get the same coverage as if the Washington Monument fell down?

Uh-oh…has anyone checked in with the folks at lesbianswholooklikejustinbeiber.com to see how they’re taking the news?

Also…grrr. My boys who are way too cool for the Beib now have the same haircut. They’re gonna be pissed…
