I wonder if baby Facebook will sign her name "FB."

Egyptian Jamal Ibrahim has named his newborn daughter Facebook in ”a tribute to the central role the social network played in helping organize the demonstrations leading to Hosni Mubarak resigning from the presidency he’d held for 30 years,” according to the site All Facebook.

TechCrunch reports that “there are five million Facebook users in Egypt, more so than any other country in the Middle East/North Africa region,” adding, “Facebook itself has reported an increase in Egyptian users in the past month, with 32,000 Facebook groups and 14,000 pages created in the two weeks after January 25th.”

Facebook and Twitter played such a huge role in helping the Egyptian people organize and stage protests, Google’s Wael Ghonim, marketing executive for the Middle East and North Africa region, personally thanked Mark Zuckerberg in an interview conducted by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.  Maybe a few Egyptian boys born in the upcoming weeks will be named Mark… and Wael.  Ghonim is credited with starting the first Facebook page that organized the January 25th protests.  That date became symbolic of the revolution, with many Twitter users tagging all posts related to the uprising #jan25.  As one of the stars of AMC’s Mad Men has proven, January is a lovely name for a girl.  One thing is certain, baby Facebook is sure to hear her name a lot growing up.
