Did he get booed? Sure, but not this year

I’m not a conservative, nor a fan of Ron Paul. And I spend little to no time watching Fox News. However, I’ll definitely be showing my 9-year-old the Fox News video announcing Ron Paul as this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference straw poll winner.

Why? Because it’s just a glaringly good example of how easy it is to manipulate media consumers — a kind of “don’t believe everything you see” lesson.

A number of bloggers and news outlets figured out what happened at this year’s CPAC. Fox News introduced a live interview with Ron Paul with a snippet from CPAC when the straw poll winner, Ron Paul, was announced. The video shows the crowd erupting in boos when the Texas Congressman’s name is called.

Funny thing though: the video was from 2010. Mitt Romney supporters were feeling extra special vocal … last year.

Ron Paul indeed won the straw poll again at CPAC this year. Only there was very little rancor and mostly applause.

Below is a video, via Truth is Contagious, showing what Fox reported and what actually happened vs. what Fox insinuates was the crowd’s reaction.

Follow-up questions for the kids: why do you think they played the old video with the boos? Who do you think Fox News likes better: Mitt Romney or Ron Paul? How do you think undecided conservatives feel when the hear people booing the popular winner? And finally, scale of 1 to 10, how trustworthy do you think this media outlet is?

Answer to last question: Negative a billion.

Was FNC wrong to run this footage? Absolutely. But do you ever call out liberal media outlets who do similar things, like when CNN ran fake quotes from Rush Limbaugh on slavery or when Newsweek ran a fake story about US soldiers flushing a Koran down the toilet? Not that I’ve seen. FNC is not perfect, but neither are other media outlets.

The rules of mathematics, and ethics, remain fixed: two wrongs do not add up to a right (although they may add up to a… wait for it… right wing. hehe).

Thanks for bringing attention to this deception. Very interesting present day example of media deception.

I’m not sure about Newsweek, but CNN is hardly a “liberal media outlet”. But really, the difference is that while these things happen everywhere, at Faux News, they are a business model. “Never a miscommunication.”

As part of the Ron Paul legion, I see it from both sides. It is quite blatant and obvious, and people like me can get quite “fanatical” about the deception. It happens over and over and over, we get this crap from ALL sides. It makes me want to act like “a 10 year old”.

Don’t fool yourself, FOX news is one of the MORE “fair and balanced” IMO.
It seems that you are stuck in the left/right paradigm. You might actually believe that “the left” is somehow “better” than the right. I am here to say, in SOME instances they are… But when the left goes after Ron Paul, it’s not pretty either…

The truth hurts, and the to 4th branch of government, the media, Ron Paul is stepping on what they have tried to “copyright”. One day it will be called “The truth according to the MSM”… lol

For instance, In the paragraph below, YOU Madeline Holler, are showing your own fear. A “number of bloggers and news outlets figured out what happened…”

Is that so Madeline Holler ? Tell us, WHO figured it out? I can tell you RIGHT NOW, it CERTAINLY wasn’t any “news outlet” or “number of bloggers”.

(wink wink)
Propaganda is most prevalent through omission to the trained eye.
