5 Most Cliched Valentine’s Gifts & Do We Really Want Them?
Valentine’s Day gifts have a much more defined range then – let’s say – Birthday or Christmas gifts where it’s more of a present free-for-all.
For Valentine’s Day, there is a small list of ‘romantic’ offerings that have become the traditional go-to gifts. Gifts which cross over to all demographics of our society from rich to poor, to young to old, to ‘just dating’ to very much married. But the thing about ‘traditional’, it’s often synonymous with ‘clichéd’.
And those Moms in long-term relationships, they really start to feel the routine and unoriginality of the Valentine’s gifting season. Sure, it’s nice to get a present any time of year, but after so much time together many spouses just default to the standards, those tried and true Valentine’s Day classics.
Here are the five most clichéd Valentine’s Gifts. And do you even want them?
1) Chocolates – In a heart shaped box is the classic way to give these treats. If you are a chocolate lover, well that’s a delicious gift. If you’re still trying to loss weight as part of your New Year’s resolutions, well this can be seen as a seen as a great big set back. It’s more the gift of a extra calories than anything else.
2) Flowers – Some people love flowers. But others? They may be allergic. Or may feel that the life span of the gift of a bouquet of flowers is just too short. Do you really want a sign of your love to be something that withers, dies and gets thrown out?
3) Lingerie – When given to the lady of the house, this can be seen more as a gift for the husband than the wife. And if something is just too tacky or looked like it was bought from the Hustler store, then it may not be Mom’s cup of tea…or maybe it is. But one thing for sure, please don’t give edible undies. No one enjoys those.
4) Jewelry – The worst thing? When someone buys you an expensive piece of jewelry but the item is something that you would never, ever wear. It’s just a conspicuous waste of money. You can’t pawn it, you don’t want to wear it, and in the end you just smile and don it every now and then – like next Valentine’s Day.
5) A Card – Sometimes a card can be very touching, but other times it’s just a very last minute gesture bought at the nearest Safeway. There will always be bonus points when the significant other actually jots something original on it. If your love just signs their name? Well, you might just show them this list and direct them to any of the objects 1 thru 4 for next year.
Which do you want most or least this year?
