Girl with Asperger’s Bullied at Phoebe Prince’s School

A year after Phoebe Prince's bullying death, it seems little has changed at South Hadley High School.
We all undoubtedly remember the tragic bullying death of 15-year-old Phoebe Prince last year. Prince killed herself in January 2010 after students at South Hadley High School in Massachusetts mercilessly tormented her for months. Six students were charged in her death and have still not yet faced trial a year later.
The Boston Herald reported on Friday that Prince’s family feel – despite the anti-bullying legislation passed in Massachusetts last Spring – very little has changed about the climate at South Hadley. They quoted a Prince family friend, Darby O’Brien, as saying, “I think that a lot of people, especially the local media, have convinced people that change has happened and the school system is moving in the right direction, and it’s not.” O’Brien continued, “You got these kids who are being held responsible over the loss of Phoebe Prince and the adults continue to skate. And that’s not right.”
Based on a recent accusations of bullying made by another female student at South Hadley, it looks like O’Brien is on to something. 16-year-old sophomore Payton Spinney complained that her classmates have called her “Satan” and cursed at her in the halls. Spinney’s mother has called the school about the problem four times, yet nothing has been done to help Spinney, who has been diagnosed with Asperger’s. Not surprisingly, South Hadley High School officials “dispute the family’s claims.”

Kesendra commented on Jan 18 11 at 2:12 pmHow horribly sad. We have just started to home school our son because of the bullying problem at his school. When will the madness end? They have a great program for the kids called project cornerstone. However the parents are contributing to the bullying and older siblings are continuing to bully the younger children.
Was Luckier commented on Jan 18 11 at 3:56 pmThis is inexcusable. Something is wrong with the atmosphere of community at this school. I was lucky enough to be in a sheltered school while growing up with undiagnosed Asperger’s and I still got bullied, but then the bullies were taken care of immediately (even though I remained affected). The whole atmosphere of how teachers and students feel about themselves and each other needs to be addressed, immediately.
Judge Tom commented on Jan 19 11 at 1:57 amAfter 23 years in juvenile court, I believe that teenagers often learn from the experiences of their peers, not just from being lectured by those in authority. Consequently, “Teen Cyberbullying Investigated” was published in 2010.
Endorsed by Dr. Phil ["Bullied to Death"], “Teen Cyberbullying Investigated” presents real cases of teens in trouble over their online and cell phone activities. Civil & criminal sanctions have been imposed on teens over their emails, blogs, text messages, Facebook and YouTube posts and more. TCI is interactive and promotes education & awareness so that our youth will begin to “Think B4 U Click.”
Thanks for looking at “Teen Cyberbullying Investigated” on http://www.freespirit.com [publisher] or on http://www.askthejudge.info [a free website for & about teens and the laws that affect them.]

California commented on Jan 20 11 at 11:27 pmHas anyone looked into the mother Jennifer who is made a better than middle income life for herself, by using her kids and the state as a money pit. She has been collecting from the state for being overweight, foodstamps, section 8 housing, all three of her kids collect money that she gets. To my account she has had 6 state appointed lawyers in last year. Her son has been in a mental institution since May, she collects child support for all her kids. How much money do you think this women has cost the taxpayer in last year, I bet more than a half million, when will someone take action against this fraud!

She collects from the taxpayers for being overweight and says she can not work. She has all three of her kids collecting money that goes directly into her pocket. She has by my account had 6 state appointed lawyers in the last year. She collects food stamps, is in section 8 housing. Has had her son in a mental institution since May. How much do you think this has a cost the taxpayer in the last year, I bet more than a half million, someone needs to stand up to this fraud.
