Claire Danes and Temple Grandin Win Golden Globe, Share an Emotional Moment
Clare Danes picked up a Golden Globe tonight for her portrayal of the famous professor, animal scientist, author, and woman with autism, Temple Grandin.
The HBO movie Temple Grandin, which was passed over for “best mini-series or TV movie,”(although it won an Oscar for best TV movie) follows the life of the most well-known person with autism. Grandin, a prolific writer and researcher, is known for her intuitive work with animals and as a spokesperson and advocate for people on the autism spectrum.
She’s also known for encouraging parents to help children with autism to “get out there” and have high expectations for achieving and getting the most out of life, as she’s done.
Danes, in an amazing hot pink backless halter dress, and Grandin, true to form in her Western attire had a touching moment when the announcement was made:
Danes and Grandin hugged, both emotional (Grandin has an awkwardness to her but her affection for Danes and enthusiasm for the movie and the moment was clear). And once on stage, Danes turned the focus back to Grandin, acknowledging Grandin’s dedication and thanking her on behalf of the millions of kids with autism she’s helped with her insights and outreach.
Did you see the movie Temple Grandin, or did you catch that part of the Globes last night?
