Verizon iPhone to Launch in February: Good News for Parents
Verizon’s CEO announced this morning at a press conference in New York City that the iPhone will be available to Verizon starting in February 2011.
It’s a long-awaited development. I’ve personally been holding on since last fall, when my Blackberry touchscreen phone froze and melted down. I considered breaking my contract and jumping ship to AT&T, but these rumors kept be going.
So I’m watching the details unfold eagerly. Here’s what we know so far in terms of release dates and pricing; why I’m welcoming the change as a mom; and the Apps for parents I’m most excited to try out:
The iPhone will launch on February 10th of this year, but you can pre-order the phones starting on February 3rd if you’re a Verizon customer.
The 16 GB iPhone 4 will cost $199 with a 2-year contract, and the 32 GB will cost $299.
The caveats: these phones will not run on Verizon’s super-fast 4G LTE network, and you won’t be able to surf the web while you’re on a call.
As a mom who juggles multiple jobs, I’m really looking forward to putting more of my life into this phone — using the calendar, easily sending and receiving picture updates, accessing Apps (like Amazon mobile, or the occasional Angry Birds when I’m in a pinch with my son), and finally having a reliable set of maps and directions.
If you’re a parent with either iPhone or Blackberry experience, which has been more helpful for organizing life and staying connected (with your kids, spouse, friends and family)?

Daily news for verizon iphone release date commented on Jan 11 11 at 2:15 pmALittleShort commented on Jan 11 11 at 3:01 pmAs a Verizon customer, I will be jumping ship (actually ending my contract early) from Verizon for several reasons. The first being I’m done paying them $170.00/mo for service (this is for my phone and internet combined) that is limited. Yes the coverage is good, but my internet is limited to 5gigs of data per month. I will be moving to Virgin Mobile where I can get UNLIMITED internet for $20 cheaper per month and a $25/mo for my cell service which will have unlimited data and text and 300 minutes (I really don’t talk much). Even though that the iPhone is moving to Verizon, I will not stay with them. Because I have the iPod touch, which is like the iPhone, without the phone parts(no texting or calling). I can download all the same apps and utilize the calender just like you can do with an iPhone. the only thing is it does need wifi to really run on its full capacity(very few apps need wifi to work, generally you just need the wifi to download the app). I’m tired of the way the Verizon staff treats me (I was once called irate in the store when I wasn’t calling names, cursing, or even raising my voice) and every other Verizon customer. Their plans are way too overpriced that even when I opt out of my contract early, I will be saving money within 3 months.
