A student shooter is dead after opening fire at two adults on a high school in Nebraska today

Millard South High School in Omaha, Neb., is under lockdown following a school shooting today. The suspected gunman, a student who shot two adults, was found dead in a car, according to police.

Records of calls made to 911 indicate that 4-5 shots had been fired inside the school, and two people — the principal and assistant principal — were injured, with one being rushed off the scene by ambulance and one by helicopter. No students were reportedly harmed. The principal is listed in serious but stable condition, and the vice principal is in critical condition.

The school has about 2,100 students and is on the west side of Omaha. After the incident, a recorded message from the school indicated that the students were safe, and a staging area for parents had been set up at a nearby church. Other area schools were dismissed following the shooting.

Eyewitnesses reported that students fled to the school’s kitchen when the shooting began, with the principal yelling at the students to move in there.

The alleged shooter has been identified as Robert Butler Jr., a 17-year-old high school senior. He was the son of an Omaha police detective and is believed to have used his father’s Glock. According to Omaha.com, he most recently posted on his Facebook page:

“Everybody that used to know me I’m sry but Omaha changed me and (expletive) me up. and the school I attend is even worse ur gonna here about the evil (expletive) I did but that (expletive) school drove me to this. I wont u guys to remember me for who I was b4 this ik. I greatly affected the lives of the families ruined but I’m sorry. goodbye.”

He is being described by others as a popular and pleasant kid. The school district plans on investigating how Butler was able to bring a gun to school.
