NASA Has Found a New Life Form – On Earth!

The final frontier.

NASA will be making a major announcement at 2 pm today, but according to Gizmodo, the cat is already out of the bag.  NASA scientists have found a new life form in California’s Mono Lake whose DNA is completely alien to any other life form on Earth.

Gizmodo reports, “NASA scientist Felisa Wolfe Simon will announce that they have found a bacteria whose DNA… uses arsenic.  All life on Earth is made of six components: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur.  Every being, from the smallest amoeba to the largest whale, share the same life stream. But not this one.”

This is obviously a huge discovery that, as Gizmodo’s Jesus Diaz says, “does indeed change everything we know about biology.”  Add to that the fact that Jason Kottke believes NASA may have “discovered arsenic on Titan (the largest moon of Saturn) and maybe even detected chemical evidence of bacteria utilizing it for photosynthesis,” and we could be in for a mind blowing announcement about extraterrestrial life and the future of humans living in space.  Maybe time to pop Wall-E in the DVD player to prepare the kids?  Sure, we had to have seen this coming, but this soon?  Unbelievable!

CommentsI always suspected Arsenio “Arsenic” Hall was an alien!

Nickrall commented on Dec 02 10 at 3:54 pm

Hahaha. Disappointed when the real news came out? No new form of life. The DNA is exactly the same, except for when scientists force it to use arsenic in the lab, in which case it doesn’t grow very well. Unique? Yes, based on current knowledge. Alien? Perhaps within a very elastic definition of the term. Unbelievable? Hardly.
